About this listen

Leroy Madden is in trouble. Big, handsome Fox Carmody trouble.

Leroy has buried his attraction to the enigmatic fisherman in irritation and pointless bickering, keeping Fox at a safe distance. But with the troublesome man now living in Leroy’s house, it’s becoming impossible for Leroy to keep his true feelings hidden, or the fact that Leroy maybe isn’t so straight after all.

Leroy hungers for something different between them. He wants more. But Leroy’s business is struggling, his newly mended relationship with his brother is at risk, Fox doesn’t plan to stay, and their mothers are lovers.

Regardless of what Leroy’s heart so desperately wants, his entire world is at stake, and nothing about a relationship with Fox Carmody was ever going to be easy.

Exciting with a few dramatic moments

Dramatic moments with a finery tempered man which ends with falling into bed and falling for each other and one with a stormy past, a good listen.

Such a wonderful story & great audio performance!

I read this book with my eyes just over a year ago and I loved it. Now that I’ve listened to Gary Furlong’s excellent performance of the audiobook, I love it even more. There really isn’t anything else I can say about the book that I didn’t already say in my original review, found below.

Such a wonderful story!

I’m a relative newcomer to Jay Hogan’s writing. Just about a year ago, the first book in this series, Off Balance, was my introduction to her writing and I’ve been catching up on her back list ever since. The MCs in On Board were introduced in Off Balance so I think you’d enjoy On Board more if you read it first but I’m not sure you really have to.

I loved everything about this book. Leroy is worse than grumpy; he can be downright nasty, not only to Fox but to most of the people around him. He’s dealing with a lot: his business is in trouble; his mom recently came out as bi-sexual and he’s got a lot of guilt that he didn’t support his younger brother better when they were younger.

Fox is in the middle of a divorce from his cheating husband, whom he really loved. The jerk took so much from him in the divorce settlement that he had to sell his business and now he wants joint custody of the dog that Fox owned before they even got together. Mack, the female dog, was just one of the highlights of the book for me.

Leroy has been off balance since he and Fox clashed a year ago. He hasn’t been able to get him out of his mind and that scares Leroy who has always believed himself to be completely straight. Fox has sworn off relationships but he can’t help being drawn to Leroy.

On Board is a story with a lot of depth and ups and downs for the MCs, it’s also humorous in places and the animals featured are just precious. Jay Hogan’s descriptive writing makes me want to visit all of the places she writes about (even though this US resident gets confused when she talks about south New Zealand being cold and north being warm-LOL).

I love it when a story makes me feel things deeply and On Board certainly did that. I laughed and I cried and in the end was so happy for Leroy and Fox.

Hard living and loving with the right voice

Gary gives this story, in my opinion, just the right emotions at the right time. He brings an already good book yo just that other level above that. 🎧 5*

These men are dealing with their own ideas, prejudices and problems in regards to relations and who you love. They do gind theie hfn/hea in a way that works for both of them.

I also like that we revisit many of the characters from book one. And for me Judah needs to grow up a bit but he seems to be working on it .

Another great narration from Gary...

🎧🎧🎧 Audio Review 🎧🎧🎧

Another polished, professional performance from Mr Furlong. I understand he's also narrating/has already narrated the Southern Lights series which is my fave of Jay's, so definitely looking forward to that.

***Book Review ***

Well, I don't know how she did it but Jay certainly turned my attitude to Leroy around in this story...obviously, the mark of a good author 👍👍👍. 4.5 stars rounded up from me.

I love bi awakening and redemption stories, and boy did Leroy have a desperate need to redeem himself 🤨. I hated the way he'd behaved towards Judah in Off Balance, and was wondering how his complete 180° could be accomplished but the more I thought about it, the more I realised that he'd had a pretty dreadful time of it throughout his teenage years too. What are you supposed to do when your parents clearly have more time [and seemingly more love] for one child than the other? Yes, Leroy was prickly, insecure, jealous of his sibling and admittedly most of the time a Dick with a capital D, BUT I think his parents were to blame for most of that. Leroy was most definitely not a people person.

I hated that he'd allowed Judah to be bullied at school and done nothing about it...actually, I'm still p****d off that he did that [older siblings should always take care of their younger ones...older sister here], but as we shall see with book 3, In Step, there is an even bigger redemption story yet to come for Kane.

Judah behaved like a Diva at times throughout this story, especially when he discovered that Lee and Fox were together BUT not everything is about you Judah, and he finally had to accept that his brother was happy for the first time in forever and love him for it.

Yet another Jay Hogan read on my 2021 Best Reads shelf. Wonderful.

Another fantastic performance

This is another fantastic performance by Gary Furlong. I loved the story as a book and I love it even more as an audiobook brought to life.

Story Brought to Life.

Only Jay Hogan could make me come to love and adore the really unlikable 'villain' from the first book of this series. It's obvious that Leroy didn't co- operate in the writing of the story, he was dragged, kicking and screaming (I'm sure), just to get him to the stage of accepting who he truly is. I totally loved this aspect of the story. He's so precious here. Such a softy, who'd a thought? Fox is absolutely perfect for him, they compliment each other so well. They both have problems, but they're dealt with summarily. Leroy is a champion in this story, a force to be reckoned with, and I totally fell in love with him. Gary Furlong is such an excellent narrator. He really brought Leroy (who.I grew to adore), and Fox to life. The last chapter of the story is brilliant, I've listened to it over and over. So well done.

Nothing special, I have no clear view of the characters. I think a good writer can make you feel for a any kind of character.

I dislike how suddenly Painted Bay is teeming with homosexuals. And I disliked how all the drama came from the ex.

Narration was good.
