Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
The number one New York Times best seller, now in an expanded audiobook edition that includes detailed historical context for the democracy-threatening Ukrainian conflict and a call to action for modern times.
This edition includes the best-selling original On Tyranny, read by the author.
In this exclusive audiobook edition, which includes eight hours of new content, Timothy Snyder combines the original On Tyranny (2017)—20 lessons on how history can instruct our response to the rise of tyranny around the world today—with 20 new lessons that answer the questions everyone is asking about Russia's war on Ukraine. With forays into history, he clarifies the causes of the Russian invasion and the meaning of Ukrainian resistance, and explains the war's connections to threats to democracy around the world. Linking past and present, and speaking only from notes, Snyder delivers an important call to arms and roadmap for resistance, providing invaluable ideas for how we can preserve our freedoms in the uncertain years to come. This is the long view we all need, given to us right now by a leading expert.

"Timothy Snyder reasons with unparalleled clarity, throwing the past and future into sharp relief. He has written the rare kind of book that can be read in one sitting but will keep you coming back to help regain your bearings." (Masha Gessen, about On Tyranny)

Crystal clear
Snyder writes for the non-historian. Clear and concise writing that ordinary folks can digest. The George Orwell of his discipline.

Great book on recent developments
I loved the book. The only downside to it is that it is very American centric. it is very much about the US and obviously Russia and Ukraine. It might have helped to delve into several other examples of countries that have equal important problems with slides to destabilization, Russian influenced elections, and involvement in Ukraine, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Moldova are I think most interesting examples, also some more examples of countries who have been 'brave' in the struggle this book describes, such as Finland or Estonia, Maybe for a future update?

Definitely not a rant
Someone said this book was a rant about the US election of 2016. It's anything but that. it's a very measured explanation of how tyranny works, or doesn't work, and how those lessons apply to Russia's barbaric invasion of Ukraine. It's the sort of book that ultimately pushes you to think about what is being said and come to your own conclusions.

Fascinating
Excellent work by Timothy Snyder. An American with a view of the world as it was, is and should be rather than steeped in rampant toxic capitalism. So few. Putin is a psychopath, a war criminal and a coward. President Zelenskyy is not a coward, he did not flee, he is a true patriot. Ukraine's survival is our survival. Mr. Snyder is also a true patriot.

An In-depth Analysis of the Current War on Ukraine
Linking themes from his earlier books on Ukraine and tyranny, Timothy Snyder gives an in-depth analysis of the current war on Ukraine by Russia, the historical reasons behind it and the lessons we can learn from this horrendous act of brutually by a corrupt and malignant regime led by (to use Synder's term) "schizo-fascists".

Powerful & necessary message, just a bit too USA-centric for me
Whoever ordered the two parts of the book has not done a proper job, I was left wondering which part I was listening to and the two main sections don’t seem to be in the right order.
I think this book is aimed mainly at those US citizens who are currently sleep walking into their own totalitarian state, if Trump is allowed back in. Snyder is 100% right, the world is indeed at a tipping point. Ukraine is not so much the canary in the coal mine, but the blaring alarm that went off in 2014, but few heard it.
