Five long-missing children are about to be returned.
It was summer in the mountains when five small children vanished from their nursery school picnic. The heat was stifling that day, the tinkle of an ice-cream van in the air....
Three-and-a-half years later, in the dead of winter, the children are returned to their families...one by one.
All except for Ivy - the granddaughter of Homicide Detective Kate Wakeland. The other four children say Ivy is dead.
Speculation grows that the mysterious abductor is enacting a cruel revenge plot due to a murderer that Kate put in jail years before.
Kate isn't sure what to believe. But one thing is certain - she's about to begin the battle of her life. When the children were first stolen, she was prevented from investigating the case.
But now, Kate will be relentless in uncovering the identity of the abductor and discovering what happened to Ivy.

Great twisty story
Really enjoyed this story, really great twisty plot with lots of small nuggets of information that keep you guessing. Not sure about a lot of the accents though…

Clever plot
Clever plot. Loved the story; struggled a bit with the performance. Overall the story made it worth continuing to listen.

Good books good stories, awful narration
really well written good books, you just need the patience of a thousand saints to try and bypass the annoying childish irritating voice over of Abbey. if ever you want to punch someone in the face it's her ! could have ruined the entire audio book but as she isn't "talking" most of the time it's tolerable

Great storyline and I didn’t want to put it down
Really enjoyed this book. Great story and I liked the characters and good narration. Have now downloaded the next two books. Hope they are as gripping.

Captivating
I loved this book. There was so much depth, intrigue and mystery. The storyline was captivating. I particularly loved the intimate moments between detective Kate and her aging mother. Could not stop listening. Anni Taylor could be my new favourite author!

Excellent page turning plot
I really enjoyed this book. It was a very clever plot, with interesting characters.
It's nice to have an older woman detective too.

A must read
This book just hooked me from the get go. One person left a review saying it had lots of twist and turns in it and it did, you just wanted to know what the next chapter would hold. Narrated brilliantly please give it a listen/ read you won’t be disappointed.
