*********

If most men say they’re one of the good guys, then why are so many women afraid to walk alone at night?

Cole is the perfect husband: a romantic, supportive of his wife, Mel’s career, keen to be a hands-on dad, not a big drinker. A good guy.

So when Mel leaves him, he's floored. She was lucky to be with a man like him.

Craving solitude, he accepts a job on the coast and quickly settles into his new life where he meets reclusive artist Lennie.

Lennie has made the same move for similar reasons. She is living in a crumbling cottage on the edge of a nearby cliff. It’s an undeniably scary location, but sometimes you have to face your fears to get past them.

As their relationship develops, two young women go missing while on a walk protesting gendered violence, right by where Cole and Lennie live. Finding themselves at the heart of a police investigation and media frenzy, it soon becomes clear that they don’t know each other very well at all.

This is what happens when women have had enough . . .

Annoying

Guessed some of the outcome and found the media extract annoying! Had to finish the book though!

Captivating and topical

I’m a great fan of Araminta Hall’s books, and this did not disappoint! I found the audio so realistic it jangled my nerves, because I’ve been on the receiving end of male stalking and violence.

Thought provoking read

A great premise. This is a clever and engaging story about male violence and the narratives surrounding it.
However, unfortunately the story is let down by the audio performance. The bulk of the book is narrated in a way that gives one of the main characters no resonance or depth. And whoever thought it would be a good idea to include the beep of an email alert/message every time one was read out in the text? This ruined those sections of the book.
I’d advise reading in print rather than listening.

Profound

Intriguing and significantly thought provoking. Challenges so much of what we just accept. What is a good guy?

Couldn’t make it to the end

Way to wishy washy for my liking. The narrator really grated on my nerves. Slow story. I gave up.

Gripping.

A thought provoking, gripping listen. Enjoyed it. Went a little sideways at the end, but still very good. I would definitely recommend this listen.

Thought provoking and disturbing.

Gripping and I thought maybe a bit predictable. But it’s defo not predictable. It’s very thought provoking right till the very end. Performances were excellent. But I can’t say that I enjoyed it. But it has given me a lot to think about. And I’d just like to say that altho it’s difficult to define what is and isn’t “art”. This story’s concept of art has also given me food for thought. I have to say it’s very original so be prepared for something very different!

Great story ruined by the story telling

Why change half way to a load of insta, news channel reports.
Great story line ruined half way through by total change of storytelling. Won’t be getting any more of her books.
