Summary
A mysterious boatman on the Thames, a drowned heir, a dustman and his wife, and a host of other Dickens characters populate this novel of relationships between the classes, money, greed, and love. The 58 characters are presented with remarkable clarity by David Timson.
Critic reviews
"The fact that Dickens is always thought of as a caricaturist, although he was constantly trying to be something else, is perhaps the surest mark of his genius." (George Orwell)

A Fantastically Written Story!
This book is a fantastic story full of mystery, romance, intrigue, deception, more than one fabulous twist! Written by the wonderful Charles Dickens, he was a genius! Wonderfully narrated by David Timson, who has a skill of keeping you interested, bringing each character to life, with a voice for each! filled with excellent story telling and humour. This is my second book narrated by David Timson, the other being Dombey & Son, also by Charles Dickens, highly recommend both of these books!

excellent reading
David Timson is a gifted narrator with a seemingly endless repertoire of characterful voices which do the novel full justice. Our Mutual Friend was not favourably reviewed when it was first published but this reading is hugely enjoyable and places many of the characters among Dickens's most memorable.

Dickens at his very best
This book was such a pleasure to hear read. The story is captivating and you just can't stop listening. David Timson reads this so well that the characters come alive. He gives just exactly the right intonation to each so that you melt into the book and feel you are there experiencing it first hand. Dickens fans will already be familiar with his masterful use of language and depiction of characters. Those not familiar with Dickens will find this an exciting, romantic and thoroughly entertaining listen. This is a very long book but is well worth having in this unabridged version because in my view, with Dickens, as with some other authors, every word and paragraph adds to the asmospher and feel of the story. I wouldn't want to lose a single word by having an abridged version. The length of the listen is absolutly no problem and David Timson, has a very pleasant voice and an English accent that is easy on the ear and works well with this book.

Wonderful performance by David Timson!
There are many strands and many characters in Our Mutual Friend (OMF) and in a brilliant performance David Timson creates each individual voice and the world in which they live. There are some excellent;y drawn characters, Bella, her father Rumpty, Jenny Wren and Mr. Riah are some of mine. Dickens writes some superbly crafted descriptive passages so finely observed that create such a feeling of being there. There is some comic parts as well. That said there is also darkness and despair. Although not my favorite Dickens work still very fine and I can only recommend it.

Our Mutual friend
And so it came to pass.
This is the first of Dickens novels, I’ll admit I struggled a bit with, which is rather ironic, as it’s his penultimate offering.
I’m not a romantic, so for this reason, my review of the book could seem a little skewed, but it came across as too saccharine and over flowery with characters seeming too good to be true or over bearing like Wrayburns ‘death bed’ reluctance to have arrested his would-be murderer,or the constant tears the female characters seem to be enveloped in.
Even the villains seem substandard, compared to a Quilp Sykes or Squeers.
That said Timsons representations of the characters are possibly the most remarkable I’ve heard in any audiobook.
Listen, and see what you think.

Our Mutual Friend
Masterly reading-soo glad I chose the David Tinson version -
I would never have had the time or inclination to read this entire novel. David Tinson with his many and various voices depicting the characteristics of his vast cast and the careful and sustained depiction of all the different worlds in which his characters lived out their lives, directed his spotlight upon each character and situation as they related to the whole canvas of Dickens’ world of Our Mutual Friend.
A total “tour de force “!
Brilliant !!
