Very accessible way into Zen thought
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, because i had such a deep experience listening to Watts talking. Years ago I read some of his books which were clear and helpful but seemed a bit quirky. Having now listened (twice) to 14 hours of him explaining Eastern thought in real depth I realise he was a deeply wise person who was really effective at putting across the unexplainable. On these 50 year old tapes he speaks directly to me today.
Any additional comments?
Just now and again he makes a remark that would have seemed normal in 1966 but seems a bit non PC today. These came as a surprise because it reminded me that he wasn't in the room with me!

Excellent overall view of man and his mind
I think many of us have come across snippets of Alan Watts lectures on YouTube. I got this on offer and finished it in a few days when doing some very manual labour. Having been interested in mental health though volunteer work and chats with various people I'm so glad I listened to this book.
His valuable insights into Hinduism, Buddhism, meditation and the various stages of mankind and how the mind works and in particular how simple life can be for all those people lost in mind confusion.
Invaluable asset which cuts through a lot of mind-twaddle that ony leads people into more confusion.

Excellent, very calming
Really enjoying it, not far in. Would be great if the chapters were titled, like many recordings here it's just.. chapter 1, chapter 2 etc, not helpful. Alan and the readings are fantastic!

Alan Watts changed my life. One of the best antidotes for modern anxieties that I am sure we all feel.

Spiritual, fun, and enlightening
What was one of the most memorable moments of Out of Your Mind?
His description of chaos and order. How everything can look like either of them and when you change perspective you will see the opposite, go even further in the same direction and you will again see the first. Never thought about how one has to have the other, how oppositions are essential for either to exist. It can be a coincidence that almost everything in the universe come in pairs
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The bit about how a net is holes tied together with string and the fact that the holes is an important thing. Had to pause and think about that for a few minutes before going on. Funny yet brilliant
Any additional comments?
Alan is a very charismatic speaker and does not seem to take himself so serious. Lots of the things he spoke about hit close to home for me personally. Im very interested in the "ego" and how it effect us while going on with our daily lives. The talks shed a lot of light on the subject and made me think more about who I am, what I think, and why I think the way I do. Have to admit I kinda thought that the "me" was something carried around "in this bag of flesh"
His view of life and death was really in line with my personal beliefs, helping me to define more clearly what I think will go on when this life ends. In order to have something that is called life we have to have death, and in for me to have my life someone else have to give up theirs. Something I in the end have to give up for someone else. Death truly implies life
This is one of the few books Im 100% sure I will go back and listen to again. Will recommend this to anyone who wants a new perspective of life, or who questions what they have been influenced to think life really is
