About this listen

Inspired by the true story of mountaineer George Mallory, Paths of Glory bring to life one of history's enduringly enigmatic figures in a stunning novel from bestselling author Jeffrey Archer.

'Archer at the peak of his imaginative powers' –
The Times

Some people have dreams that are so outrageous that if they were to achieve them, their place in history would be guaranteed. Francis Drake, Robert Scott, Amy Johnson, and Neil Armstrong are among such individuals. But what if one man had such a dream, and when he'd fulfilled it, there was no proof that he had achieved his ambition?

Paths of Glory is the story of such a man. But not until you've turned the last page of Jeffrey Archer's extraordinary novel, will you be able to decide if mountaineer George Mallory should be added to this list of legends. Because if he were, another name would have to be removed . . .

I found this audio book a fantastic introduction into the historical account of George Mallory's climbing career. Being a huge Archer fan for many years I downloaded this audio book without ever hearing the name 'George Mallory'. I was stunned to discover that the book was based on a real person/s. The narration was wonderful and true. Yet another memorable read/listen from Archer.

Addictive listening.

I was very pleasantly surprised at the story having visited the Everest area before. The description of the processes and attitudes of the time was also good. This is a story that would make a good film when one day they find the elusive camera. The key of course is to be successful you must return. The epilogue was also interesting. To think they tried to climb the mountain in the equipment of the time says so much of the drive and ambition of all the team. Another triumphant failure perhaps but nonetheless a magnificent effort.

A very good listen

Enjoyed every second I listened, like others, I had no prior knowledge of Mallory and his exploits so to discover you're reading a true story told as well as if it is fiction is quite the testament to the book.

Another example of Archer's epic storytelling

Although not a fast paced thriller, I still really enjoyed this book. It gives a good insight to the life of George Mallory. Although I knew how it would end, it didn't detract from the story.

An interesting tale

OhMiGoodness Another Jeffrey Archer I have to admit to enjoying. After listening to Prisoner of Birth, I was excited to hear that this book was available as an audio. Totally different in style and background, but nonetheless a riveting and enjoyable book. There is enough detail in the story to keep your interest, but not so much technical stuff as to become a book just for climbers! This is almost a historical novel I suppose. Really good listen.

Loved it, a great interpretation of what happend, some facts I believe not 100% accurate but then this is a story. A great way to learn history.
