About this listen
Paul Temple lives again in five BBC Radio 4 remakes of classic adventures, starring Crawford Logan as Paul and Gerda Stephenson as Steve.
Paul Temple and the Sullivan Mystery (2006): A pair of spectacles spells danger for the suave sleuth and his wife as they embark on a trip to Egypt.
Paul Temple and the Madison Mystery (2008): A murdered millionaire and a mysterious watch-chain sets the Temples on the trail of an international counterfeiting gang.
Paul Temple and Steve (2010): On the hunt for notorious criminal mastermind Dr Belasco, Paul and Steve find trouble at every turn...
A Case for Paul Temple (2011): Braving booby traps, bullets and blazing houses, Paul pursues a shadowy drug dealer known only as ‘Valentine’.
Paul Temple and the Gregory Affair (2013): When a young woman disappears, Paul is drawn into a ruthless kidnapping racket run by the murderous ‘Mr Gregory’.
These five dramas were originally broadcast in the late 1940s, but are now missing from the BBC archives. Using the same scripts, vintage sound effects and much of the original incidental music, these remakes have been engineered to sound as much like the lost serials as possible.
Caution: these programmes contain language that may cause offense, and dated attitudes that reflect the age in which they are set.

Old fashioned detective story
Always enjoy these stories... never plausible but entertaining nevertheless and the amount of cars Paul & Steve get through - it's a wonder they don't talk incessantly about their ever increasing insurance premiums!
Still just great to listen to - by Timothy I enjoy them in spite of numerous impersonations and various characters being beaten up - the stories still take you to a different era - one that seems much more pleasant than the one we live in now.

Paul Temple and Steve - Spoiler Alert...
I'd have thought that Mr Durbridge would have researched his ballistics a bit more thoroughly, but apparently not.
Revolvers don't take silencers.
Why? They don't work.
How so? There's no gas seal between the front face of the rotating chamber and the interior face of the action where the barrel's entrance is located. so you could in theory machine moderator-threads to the muzzle and fit the biggest most effective moderator in existence- but the report would still be ordinarily loud, even if the muzzle blast were indeed reduced. Hand guns of all types are short range weapons despite what may be inferred by certain hollywood productions, so a revolver's report would be just as audible no matter what was fitted.
(They're only "silencers" in TV/cinema; to shooters and the gun trade/licensing authorities they're "moderators", and far, far less effective than drama productions would infer...
Incidentally, users of revolvers know to keep their fingers well away from the area mentioned above, as the localised blast from that little gap can injure the shooter's hand if so placed, especially the blast from the larger calibre high-energy weapons now in use in certain walks of life.

Cocktail Parties!
Paul Temples character is consistently good, you know what you’re going to get - the story line always seems to follow the same pattern, a mystery, suspects, and a party at the end..
Can listen to these over and over again - that probably says it all!

Fantastic
This is a great series of dramas by Francis Durbridge. The stories are pretty similar in their conception with the same basic storyline but the radio show is brilliant. They are definitely dated in their ideas but don't let that deter you from a great audio experience. This is a great set of radio detective dramas.
