About this listen

Many moons have passed since Adicia left the Isle of Wisdom, but finally Garnrin - the ancient who warned of the towers’ impending destruction - has been found. With Athanasia’s children exhibiting strange new powers and the Mahtma’s influence growing, the tower Leaders need guidance - but Garnrin isn’t about to just give it away. When they finally return home, Adicia, Gara, and Tavis are followed by a cohort of centuries-old scholars who, in their younger days, proudly served the towers. These ancients are shocked by what they find: the towers they once knew are gone. In their place, self-proclaimed masters struggle with apprentice-level spells and corrupt elders bicker among themselves. Even the tower leaders are weak and ignorant of their true roles - and above all this chaos, the Mahatma bides her time. But Adicia will not stand idly by while her towers crumble. She knows time is running out: beyond the borders, the demon-worshippers of Tenebrosity grow restless, and their corruption may be even closer than it seems....

Perseverance is the epic sequel to Deceived!, M.C. Colon’s first fantasy novel. It is a tale of intrigue, action, and romance, and is sure to appeal to fans of fantasy and adventure alike.

This book continues the story of a group of young people who are trying to save their country and the Towers from oblivion.

They meet with acceptance as well as rejection in their attempts. They find allies and enemies withing the people they thought were their friends as well as the people they meet in their quest. They must learn that everything they had been taught was untrue and try to reforge the world in which they live. The book is outstanding in the world building it has done and holds the attention of the listener.

The narrator has achieved a feel for the characters and presents them well. The voices of the characters are consistent and the narration is very clear and understandable. Due to the large number of characters it often seems that the narration is long winded but it is simply that all the players must be spoken out.

I was reminded of Greek mythology, particularly of the Gods, when listening to this novel. The writing is good and the politics of the situation well explained. The excellent narration adds to the listeners enjoyment. My criticism is that the 'ordinary' folk are entirely absent and the action and intrigue are only those of the upper echelons. An enjoyable and absorbing listen.
