Summary

Enjoy this InAudio presentation of Persuasion by Jane Austen. Delight in what literary critics say is the peak of Jane Austen’s writing skills - and her final completed novel.

Persuasion is Jane Austen’s final completed novel and has been critically acclaimed as the most maturely written of Austen’s novels. It was posthumously published in 1817, just six months after Austen’s death.

Persuasion follows Anne Elliot, a strong young woman, as she is reacquainted with her once-fiance, Frederick Wentworth. In Austen’s beloved witty writing, the story follows the duo and their families as they face financial troubles, crisscrossed relationships, the strong emotions of jealousy and unrequited affection, and the societal pressures of the age.

With a charming cast of characters and told in signature Austen flair, this is a story of the power of being true to one’s self and the power of love above societal struggles.

Lovely story

I loved the story and characters but struggled to get to grips with with Paula Roscoe’s reading of this story.

Poor Reader

Persuasion is one of my favourite books, but Paula Roscoe's reading spoilt it for me.

Persuasion? Not quite.

19 century language is different to ours. It is stuctured in a precise way by Jane Austen, and this narrative does not recognise this entirely. Words have very specific meanings, sentances have different and convoluted structures which are not entirely exploited, but lost.

Little Persuaded

A very poor reading, so many mispronunciations and apparently negligible understanding of the text.

Extremely disappointing.
