About this listen
The delightful 17th installment of the ever-popular, perennially best-selling No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series.
For years Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi - codirectors of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency - have been helping people with the problems in their lives, but their partnership is tested by a curious case: a client who wants to rediscover the life she lost when she left Botswana 30 years ago.
Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi soon find that the quest for the truth takes them in very different directions. Each is convinced she is on the right track - but what if they are both wrong?
Meanwhile Mma Ramotswe must extract Mr Polopetsi - part-time assistant detective - from a potential disaster with wide-reaching consequences; deal with a stray dog that Fanwell, the gentle mechanic, has brought into their lives; and cope with the agency's archenemy, Violet Sephotho.
Steeped in the heat of summer in Botswana and packed with intrigue, this heartfelt tale of friendship under pressure reveals how coming to terms with the past may be the only way to face the future.

Another one as good as the others
If you liked all of these stories in the earlier part of the series you will like this too. Some very comforting as well as thought provoking themes, not really a typical detective novel but a gentle and humorous exploration of the human condition on a backdrop of a remote and exotic country in Africa which in human terms could not be more near to us.
Adjoa Andoh's reading is perfect. It is really believable and adds another layer to the text. I could not imagine any narrator for this series but this one. The reading itself is a work of art within a work of art.

African sunshine
I love these books and this one was every bit as good as the previous ones. The characters are larger than life - Precious is precious!

A light novel, not too taxing!
I did enjoy this book, but it is a little 'sweet' for my liking, a little gossipy! I could have slapped the bragging co-director as she really got on my nerves. The narrator was good, some of the voices were strange but OK. I wouldn't rush out to buy another in the series.

The wise ladies of Botswana
I have wanted to read/listen to this series for some time. I cane into the series at more than halfway and wondered if I would understand the characters.
I was not disappointed and have really enjoyed the characters and their lives in Botswana.
I am sure the purist would say I should have started at the beginning of series, however I di not think it has massively detracted me from understanding about these ladies detectives who are more like the wise women of the area solving various problems. So I will certainly be will be back for more from this series

Another delightful trip to Botswana
Adjoa Andoh always makes the wonderful world of Mma Ramotswe come alive so convincingly. After 17 books the Botswana of Alexander McCall Smith offers a glorious, if fictitious, refuge from the stress and disappointments of life in cold grey Britain and the intolerance of Brexit. If only Mma Ramotswe could replace Theresa May our problems would soon be solved!
