Superb YA thriller!
It’s a YA thriller with speculative elements. Lina Jamison is invited to attend a summer camp at Haverfordwest Pines Academy. Immediately she knows she doesn’t fit in, her mediocre grades and bad attitude at odds with the other talented and gifted teens.
Lina’s character is superbly established, self-doubt and independence, a stranger in a strange place. She grows and learns through the frequent challenges and gradually makes some friends and enemies. Her determination to uncover the truth about the Academy might prove to be dangerous…
There are some dark elements and a social conscience. I didn’t read the blurb and was absolutely gripped as to where this story was heading. Full of character, action and mystery, I’m hugely impressed and I’m hoping for a sequel.
Special mention must go to narrator Madeleine Smith, there are plenty of characters and Madeleine keeps them vivid, distinct and full of personality.
Highly recommended!
