About this listen

Find the truth; risk everything. A gripping WWII spy novel full of intrigue and peril from a modern master.

1942: a German spy comes ashore on a desolate stretch of Lincolnshire beach. But he is hunted down by a young detective, Richard Prince. The secret services have need of a man like him....

In occupied Europe, Denmark is a hotbed of problems for British intelligence. Rumours of a war-ending weapon being developed by the Germans are rife. Sent to Copenhagen, Prince is soon caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Dodging Gestapo agents, SS muscle and the danger of betrayal, his survival - and the war effort - hangs in the balance.

Gripping and intense, Prince of Spies is the first in a new espionage series that will delight fans of Alan Furst, Philip Kerr and John le Carré.

Dull narration

The story is ok….not hugely thrilling and a little far-fetched, but I did feel compelled to finish it…the narration is pretty poor and lacking in variety and excitement. I don’t think I’ll be bothering with any more titles by this author…perhaps if it was narrated by Jonathan Keeble I might be thinking differently??

Great story

As usual Alex Gerlis has produced a compelling story, very well researched. I did find the narration rather lumpy and often unconvincing.

Great story, but...

The narration leaves a bit to be desired. The narrator needs to learn how some names are pronounced - like Ciaus (as in the College). The correct pronunciation is "Keys". It took me several minutes to figure it out. There were a few other issues where a place name was wrong, but in general a very good offering.

so much going on to keep you interested

love the complexity, twists and turns, the detailed descriptions, a little history, tiny bit of romance.

Quite good

Entertaining and compelling story. It's a bit far fetched in some ways but it's not a history book.

Narration

A promising start to a new series of spy thrillers absolutely ruined by the worst narration in my extensive Audible library.

So badly read

This narrator should return to traffic reports.
The story isn’t much better, so he’ll feel at home.

Couldn't put it down!

After a slightly slow start this story gathers pace. Keeping you wanting more. Looking forward to the next adventure. With story's within story's there's a lot going on but easy too follow. Enjoy.

A bit boys own adventure. .. but easy and addictive listening.

Reasonably straightforward goodies versus baddies. But the description of the ins and outs of the ww2. Spy business interesting. Good character definition and I cared about all the main characters. Definitely give it a go. I’m going to try the rest of the series. Happy reading.
