So I was expecting a narrative on how to deny ourselves, taking up Jesus’ cross (or our cross) and followHim. Jesus told us in Matthew 28, to start at home, in our areas, then gradually expand ourselves to share the Gospel throughout the world.
Well, no. The bulk of this book is external ministry. Outreach. Overseas, making disciples. Only occasionally mentioning Secret Church and a couple of Small Groups, but not with any “How to” leadings! Every story ends with the couples and solos meeting in these meetings, are subsequently sending people abroad!
Perhaps I’m missing the point. Perhaps my faith isn’t big enough, deep enough or strong enough, perhaps I just want a jump-start to turn away from me and turn to Jesus. I want to actually start at home and communicate the gospel, but this book didn’t do that (for me). Perhaps I will go overseas but, Europe is a big mission field.
Unfortunately, this book didn’t connect with me.
