About this listen

Book 2 of the Space Wolf Series

Grandfather Nurgle spreads a deadly plague across an Imperial planet. The young Ragnar Blackmane responds to the Inquisition’s call for aid, but can he save the world in time?

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's a rip-roaring action-adventure tale that pits the Young Wolf and his pack against the might of the forces of the Plague God. It's got a very memorable Great Unclean One and an insight into the Space Wolves' relationship with the Inquisition.

THE STORY

A deadly plague is ravaging the planet of Aerius, and millions of Imperial citizens are dying. Inquisitor Sternberg turns to the fearsome Space Wolves for aid in recovering the ancient Talisman of Lykos, which he believes can cure the corruption ravaging the world. Ragnar Blackmane and his squad of Blood Claws embark on a near-suicidal mission to retrieve the talisman before it is too late. But this is no ordinary plague, and the servants of Nurgle await the Space Wolves. Will they be able to overcome the forces of Chaos, or is Aerius doomed?

Written by William King. Narrated by Phillip Sacramento. Running time is 10 hours and 56 minutes (approx).

Brilliant story and performance

I love these old Bill King books. The story is great and the narrator was excellent.

Definitely one of the best 40k audiobooks.

vlka fenryka

Another gripping novel, that is the backstory of the great Ragnar Blackmane. What’s not to love, vlka fenryka vs all manner of aliens…

Great narator, but not even that can save this book

Not a lot to say.. book 1 was the start of something epic, the feeling you get when you see the intro to something incredible (thinking Mass Effect)..

Then book 2 comes along, and drops you out of orbit.. to a slow and monotonous death.

Maybe this is a bit harsh, the authors Gotrek books are excellent, but BL dropped the ball here, Throwing a relative-newcomer to 40k into such a high profile book. The writing style is completely inconsistent, and plot is more akin to fan-fiction - which is a shame, as it was so promising.

Buy it just so you can at least be prepared for book 3.. or don't..

Not as good as the first

I love an origin story so the first was a brilliant book for me, where I got to see Ragnar’s quick progression. This felt like the story of a side quest for Ragnar. I did not get the sense of Ragnar growing throughout the story. Slight spoiler coming up but not really- I think the overall story could have done with some additions and there’s a couple of characters where, if they were killed off or if they weren’t killed off, it would have provided Ragnar with more opportunities to grow.
