About this listen

Renegade Star, Book One

Jace Hughes is a Renegade.

That means taking almost any job that comes his way, no matter the situation. So long as he can keep his ship floating, he's free to live the life he wants. But that all changes when he meets Abigail Pryar, a nun looking for safe passage out of the system. Too bad there's something off about the cargo she's carrying.

Jace knows he shouldn't ask too many questions, but when strange sounds start coming from inside the large, metal box, he can't help but check it out. Big mistake. To make matters worse, he's being pursued by unknown ships - people who want that cargo. Does Jace give up the goods and hand over the nun ...or does he risk it all for an even bigger payout?

Renegade Atlas, book Two

The search for Earth has begun.

After barely escaping the Union's grasp, The Renegade Star is off to parts unknown. Every member of its crew is a wanted fugitive. None of them can ever return home.

But all is not lost. Thanks to Lex, a strange girl with a remarkable gift, the path to Earth has been revealed. According to ancient myth, Earth holds valuable treasures, lost technology, and endless secrets, ripe for the taking. Jace and his new friends have a chance to discover it all, but only if they can keep Lex out of the Union's grasp.

Doing so won't be easy. With enemies on all sides, the deck is stacked against them, but nothing in this universe comes easy when you're a Renegade.

If you're a fan of Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, or Leviathan Wakes, you'll love this epic, space opera thriller.

Warning: This book contains action, cussing, and general badassery. Listen at your own risk.

So I don't give the wrong impression I want to say up front that I did enjoy this. In fact I ended up listening to it every moment I had for about a day.

But at times, particularly in the first few chapters of the first book, it's painfully clear where the writer found their inspiration which could be quite jarring.

Good but not great

Really enjoyed this start to the series , as per normal you can't go far wrong with any books that Luke Daniels Involved with. Book 1 started well with a good storyline and some great and it just carried on into book 2, looking forward to starting books 3&4 this virus lock down is costing me a fortune in books but it should give me a good chance to get through most of this series.
You keep writing them Mr Chaney and if Luke Daniels keeps narrating them then y will keep listening to them.

fantastic

Excellent story, most certainly feeling like the beginnings of a great space opera in the mold of the foundation, ancient secrets of a forgotten earth, competing galactic civilisations. Judging by the amount of books still to go in the series it's going to be a convoluted one.

I have to say the narration is the best I've experienced to date, a truly gifted story teller giving distinct voice to each character without falling into silliness like so many seem to. I will be adding the name Luke Daniels to my list of favourite authors as a name to look out for.

Superb

Brilliant first two books. The storyline is excellent and the narration first class. Just hope the next books have English narration as when checked there didn’t appear to be any. Here’s hoping

One of the best series of books I've listened to pulls you in and doesn't let go till the very end. it's got action, comedy and a great story. left me wanting to hear more from this world.

One of the best series I've listened to

I normally have a tough time with audiobooks outside the LitRPG genre, but this story, along with Luke's excellent narrating, had no trouble holding my attention and looking forward to my next listening session. My only "complaint" is that Luke read rather fast, to the point of ignoring punctuation. It didn't bother me in the least but it was something I took note of. I'm halfway through the next combo pack and just bought the third.

A fast-paced space opera with great characters

great

If you're new to sci-fi and have no great expectations, then you will enjoy this. However, I found the narrator's voice OTT at times, which spoilt it for me.

I found the idiotic behaviour of Jace, the Captain, to be really annoying, especially when it took him forever to figure out that they had been tagged, which was why the Union could locate them at every turn. I would think most of us figured that one out within the first couple of minutes.

All that aside, this story did have the making of a good plot, with a few tweaks.

Simplistic
