About this listen

Scarred by the brutal ravages of war, Lorne Gordon, Duke of Sutherland and colonel in the Royal Regiment of Scotland, returns to the Highlands to discover that his clan thought him long dead. His greedy half-brother has assumed his title, sold his family seat, and disappeared with the fortune. Once he engineers the return of his title, he must convince the new estate owner to reverse the wholly legal sale with the promise that his half-brother and the funds will be found. However, that goal seems impossible when Lorne discovers the buyer is none other than the sister of his ex-betrothed.

Took me a while to warm to it, because the heroine was punishing a man who had never actually harmed her & it felt a little too personal for reasons given...

as the story progressed, it improved a lot as it wasn't as contentious or acrimonious as I thought it was gonna be!

I liked both MCs as Lorne himself said Jamie was badass 😄

The only downside for me was that the villains got off Scot free, especially considering that their deeds were dastardly & lasted nearly a decade...

I saw some of the comments & couldn't help but laugh at the thee comment... people stopped using thee in the 1700s, so it wouldn't have made ANY sense for them to use it in this time period.

One thing I did take issue with, was the use of the word flat, which is an apartment... but from the description, it sounded like a house not a flat!

started off sour but ended sweetly

I felt the story was good however the narrator did not do it justice and as a result found listening for long periods of time very annoying.

Good story

The overuse of Scots dialect, yet a modern form where ye is used over and over instead of thee is strange. The educated classes would speak more standard upper class language probably with an English accent.
And the narrator used the same accent regardless of which part of Scotland and which class characters are.
It spoiled the story.

Why would a duke speak Scots?

The storyline seemed good, interesting, but I had to stop listening. The narration around the Scottish accent was really poor, not the voice. it would of been better not bothering. in my opinion. It just grated.

the poor narration. he seemed to struggle with the Scottish accent
