About this listen

There's a new wind blowing in this dazzling collection of new Rumpole stories: for the first time Rumpole finds himself appearing for an asylum-seeker at the Appeals Tribunal and, worst of all, his chambers have become a smoke-free zone.

The stories are: Rumpole and the Old Familiar Faces, Rumpole and the Remembrance of Things Past, Rumpole and the Asylum Seekers, Rumpole and the Camberwell Carrot, Rumpole and the Actor Laddie, Rumpole and the Teenage Werewolf, and Rumpole Rests His Case.

"Mortimer proves his wit is as sharp as ever." (Publishers Weekly)
"With Mortimer's greatly felicitous style and careful plotting, these stories are sheer, absolute reading pleasure." (Booklist)

I loved it. Such a clever account of life as “an old Bailey Hack” brilliantly written entertaining and a demonstration of the under dog winning through. I’d buy the whole series if I could afford to

I am perhaps unkind to the performer as I have for many years enjoyed the BBC characterisation from Another.

excellent storytelling

Oh the joy of hearing the much lamented Tony Britton voicing a brilliant collection of the ever wonderful Rumpole stories - happy days 😌

The reader was excellent. Well worth my time. This rile about a fifteen word review being nevessary is ridiculous

Ok story etc but it regularly jumped back to a number of places. Never had any problems like this with any other book.

Technical issues with this book

It’s always a joy to listen to these books I can really get into the characters snd be taken away with their stories , narration is great .

So entertaining

Listened to all the Bill Wallace renditions of Rumpole and absolutely loved his capture of the persona. This rendition is, well quite frankly, wooden in my opinion. Nothing at all riveting, and little which draws me me back to wanting to listen to these stories other than the enticing story-line and wonderful use of language by John Mortimer. Terribly disappointing. Wish there was a different version to give the characters and storyline the entitlement ….and life….they deserve. Would recommend only because I can’t find an alternative version. So missing B Wallace.

Simply Apalling Narrative…..Sorry

Would you ever listen to anything by John Mortimer again?

Yes

Which character – as performed by Tony Britton – was your favourite?

Rumpole

Any additional comments?

It was very difficult to follow the stories as the each chapter was repeated back to back thus running time was over 12 hours but actual story length was just over 6!

Poor download

Every chapter of this book is duplicated, so the advertised length of this product is wrong. Also, having to skip every other chapter is annoying.

Half the story
