Summary

After years of watching Kenyan athletes win the world's biggest races, Adharanand Finn set out to discover just what it was that made them so fast - and to see if he could keep up. Packing up his life he moved from Devon to Iten, in Kenya, to eat with, interview, sleep beside and - most importantly – run with, some of the greatest runners in the world. In the distance rests his dream, to join the best of the Kenyan athletes in an epic first marathon across the Kenyan plains.

My first audio book

being a runner myself , I loved the story and find just listening to this in my car commute a great way of getting through a book . I got a real feel for the journey Finn went on and could picture myself out in Kenya running the dirt trails with them . A real simple and laid back lifestyle really has an appeal, and the basic diet they had really makes you question the crap you eat at home . Enjoyed it very much . Thank you

Fun listen and that’s from a swimmer!

I found the dialogue well put together and gripping. Would welcome the author returning to Kenya to shed light on what some commentators have suggested is/was wholesale widespread doping.

Quite an interesting listen.

I think I was expecting what the author set out to achieve in the first place, but ultimately didn't.

it was an interesting book, and gives a good insight into what the people of Kenya do and how they do it.
I think for me the book lacked a bit of emotion being narrated by someone other than the author.
it was well done, just missing a bit of spark.

Good story, irritating delivery

I enjoyed the story and engaged with the characters and the writer's mission. The use of the present tense to narrate the past is irritating, as is the narrator 's occasional cavalier approach to punctuation.

Should have bought the abridged version

Great story, but far too much detail - recommend an abridged version unless you are really interested in the minutia of Kenyan who's who and their best times - definitely does what it says on the tin though!

great story

liked the story - not entirely great about the 'african' accents used in the narration.
