About this listen
Staying busy is easy. Staying well rested - now there's a challenge.
How can you keep your energy, happiness, creativity, and relationships fresh and thriving in the midst of never-ending family demands, career pressures, and the stress of everyday life? In Sacred Rest, Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, a board-certified internal medicine doctor, reveals why rest can no longer remain optional.
Dr. Dalton-Smith shares seven types of rest she has found lacking in the lives of those she encounters in her clinical practice and research - physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, sensory, social, creative - and why a deficiency in any one of these types of rest can have unfavorable effects on your health, happiness, relationships, creativity, and productivity. Sacred Rest combines the science of rest, the spirituality of rest, the gifts of rest, and the resulting fruit of rest. It shows rest as something sacred, valuable, and worthy of our respect.
By combining scientific research with personal stories, spiritual insight, and practical next steps, Sacred Rest gives the weary permission to embrace rest, set boundaries, and seek sanctuary without any guilt, shame, or fear.

However, the deeper into the book, the more the religious themes comes up. There are lots of mentions of Christian stories and bibical quotes which is really off-putting and a bit thoughtless. It feels like really thoughtless to assume all readers would hold the same beliefs as the author and really inappropriate to include in this type of book.
Overall I am enjoying the book and finding it helpful but I just wish she would stop harping on about god.
helpful but heavy on the religion

Really insightful model of self-care, but all the religiosity gets in the way

Second half quotes heavily from the bible, frequent mentions of God and Jesus, biblical stories and so on. I would describe myself as spiritual not specifically Christian and I found the continual theme and mentions of the bible jarring and inescapable. I will listen again but stop at the end of part one.
A really valuable book, but be aware is Christian

Hugely religious after a few chapters

Not only the 3rd part is extremely short (1 Chapter), but the 1st one, which I thought would provide me with numerous practical and step by step tips didn't help much.
The book redirects us to the Rest quiz to help us identify the types of rest we need, but then merely offers 2 or 3 vague and unclear tips for each type.
There is only one chapter per type of rest (7 in total), and the tips/solutions are only mentioned briefly at the very end of each chapter (Today's Application), which is definitely not enough to "recover your life, renew your energy and restore your sanity".
... Nevertheless, I'll try to listen to the book again and see what else I can get from it.
Lacks practical advices
