42 Tage nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs wusste in der Region Schwarzenberg im Erzgebirge niemand so recht, was nun eigentlich geschehen sollte. Offenbar interessierte sich keine der Besatzungsmächte für die Region - weder die Amerikaner noch die Russen marschierten ein. Und so blieb Schwarzenberg über einen Monat lang sich selbst überlassen. Jahre später stellte der Schriftsteller Stefan Heym diese Zeitspanne ins Zentrum seines utopischen Romans, in dem Bewohner der Region die "Republik Schwarzenberg" ausrufen und den Landstrich über mehrere Tage basisdemokratisch selbst verwalten.
