Summary

You're not going home. You're not going anywhere. You're mine now.

Growing up in a deeply troubled family, 15-year-old Anna felt lost and alone in the world. So when a friendly taxi driver befriended her, Anna welcomed the attention, and agreed to go home with him to meet his family. She wouldn't escape for over a decade.

Held captive by a sadistic pedophile, Anna was subjected to despicable levels of sexual abuse and torture. The unrelenting violence and degradation resulted in numerous miscarriages, and the birth of four babies.... each one stolen away from Anna at birth.

Her salvation arrived 13 years too late, but despite her shattered mind and body, Anna finally managed to flee. This is her harrowing, yet uplifting, true story of survival.

Contains mature themes.

So gripping to read

Struggled to listen to but felt I needed to know she got away. Such a strong girl. Glad she's finally happy with her Jamie 👍

A Great Audiobook

Pakistan is one of the worst places in the world for women. Its culture is medieval and intensely chauvinistic - and yet we have imported it to England. This is the story of how Anna endured the torture of a Pakistani sadist and his associates. Like Joe Simpson inching his way out of a crevasse, it's about agony which can hardly be imagined. But she finally escaped and, instead of succumbing to madness or alcoholism as you might expect, wrote this beautifully composed and level-headed account.

Unbelievably horrific

compelling to listen too but very uncomfortable. The narration was excellent and if felt like it was Anna speaking. It is so hard to believe that this type of abuse goes on but it does, the scenarios are so difficult to listen too and made me so angry that one human could treat another this way. To say I enjoyed the book sounds wrong but I was addicted to listen be prepared to be shocked

A tragic story

Overall this is a good but tragic story of yet another a child being let down by everyone around them. How evil some people are in this world is truly horrifying.

I am not attacking her in anyway and do not question the horrors she has faced in life and it is very commendable and brave that she has been able to put this book together to tell her story and i wish her nothing but happiness for the rest of her life. However, I'm always slightly baffled that someone can remember so many detailed conversations and minor details from so long ago at a time your mind would have probably tried to block out.

The narration is pretty good overall, but she cannot imitate people well, for instance all males (excluding indians) in the story seem to have the same northern sleazy accent.

Harrowing story

It sickens me to know that this is still happening and the authorities turn a blind eye - so many opportunities to be freed but no-one dare help

absolutely loved this book.

cannot believe one person can survive so much persistent abuse. I wish Anna well and hope her life can be as normal as possible considering. I also hope that she can find the strength to send Malik to prison, for a very long time, along with his brothers and mother!
narrater was easy and clear to listen to.
