Summary

When two girls are abducted and killed in Missouri, journalist Camille Preaker is sent back to her home town to report on the crimes. Long haunted by a childhood tragedy and estranged from her mother for years, Camille suddenly finds herself installed once again in her family's mansion, reacquainting herself with her distant mother and the half sister she barely knows - a precocious 13-year-old who holds a disquieting grip on the town.

As Camille works to uncover the truth about these violent crimes, she finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly. Clues keep leading to dead ends, forcing Camille to unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past to get at the story. Dogged by her own demons, Camille will have to confront what happened to her years before if she wants to survive this homecoming.

Spectacular!

I have read this book as well as listened to the audiobook and cannot get enough. I won’t ruin the story in this review.

The narrator (the actual audio reader, not Camille; although she is too) is very unlikeable and a real hard listen AT THE BEGINNING. You get used to her voice and slight cringe reading.

Then... allow yourself to enjoy the bleak, dark story unfolding.

A very interesting read

I read this book after watching the series on tv. It is so much better at explaining the ending than the tv.
Slightly gory story not for the faint hearted. I loved this book never a dull moment.

Wait for it...!!

There's a beautiful slow pace initially. Floating through Camille's thoughts, fitting the pace of her seemingly slow paced home town. The pace jumps high a couple of times to keep you guessing... And the ending is brilliant! Wait for the surprise...

Another great 'who dun it'

If you could sum up Sharp Objects in three words, what would they be?

Your typical mystery. Southern America charm mixed with small town mentality with a little scandal thrown in.

What other book might you compare Sharp Objects to, and why?

Cookoos Calling is a better story along the same theme.

Have you listened to any of Liza Ross’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Not yet but I'm busy working my way through so it won't be long.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I finished this book in two weeks so I would say it had a certain draw to it.

Curious

Interesting book. There was not one character that I liked, they were all horribly flawed.
The plot seemed to work and it was an entertaining listen.
Once more I found myself being lectured on the perils of alcohol, that is the third book this month. It's enough to drive you to the sherry cupboard.

Chilling but thrilling tale!

This was a chilling tale told in a great fashion which makes you feel you are truly in the story. I couldn't stop listening, a must if your a fan of Gone Girl or Girl in the Train!

Fantastic book, wish I'd read it instead

The story was great, listened to it super quickly because I was so engaged. But I have to say the narrator has a strangely robotic / american twang which took a long time to get used to. With a different narrator I would have given 5 stars.

Just watch the show

Honestly, I listened to this after the show and couldn’t believe just how much more they managed to bring out of the story for TV. The pacing feels off, the “reveal” feels almost bullet pointed in the epilogue and the character voices were a nightmare. So yeah, just watch the show.
