About this listen
One of the UK's brightest and best comedians takes an incisive look at race and belonging.
But where are you really from?
Phil Wang has been asked this question so many times he's lost count. So, finally, he decided to write a book about it. About how to be from two places at once.
Phil was born in the UK, in Stoke-on-Trent to an English mother and a Chinese-Malaysian father. Three weeks after his birth, the Wang family returned to his father's hometown in Malaysia, and at age 16, Phil was uprooted once again, to return with his family to the UK.
In Sidesplitter, Phil reflects on race, belonging and cultural cachet, bringing his trademark cynicism and wit to topics that range from food and comedy to empire and colonialism.

Best comedian book to date
I’ve read a fair few comedian autobiographies and this has to be the most informed, interesting, well written and genuinely funny one to date. A book worth being written with well reasoned and thought out views on important issues. Highly recommend

Great Insights into East Asian Colonialism
Phil does a great job at keeping you interested. I love his anecdotal way of telling you about his Malaysian origins and memories. I loved hearing his anti-colonial bias and his realising the hypocrisy in it, for without said colonialism he wouldn't be here. He's very aware of this and its fun to hear him play with this as we hear his vires and stories on each titles chapters.
I didn't want this book to end. Mr Wang did a great job with this book and even though its hilarious at times, the more thought provoking, philosophical points he touches on are what shine through.

KOJI
From a displaced Brit who spent formative years in Ireland and now lives in Luxembourg, I agree with your premise that you are what you feel at any particular moment.

I enjoyed this. my best mate is half Malaysia and it made me see things that I think I've probably missed or not noticed in the past. Phil is funny throughout this book, making me laugh Out loud and numerous points. Well worth a read or listen to.

Didn’t want it to end.
A really enjoyable and informative book by Phil Wang, who has a lovely voice. I’m sorry it had to end. I’ll miss you Phil!
PS I chose this book after listening to Phil on Adam Buxton’s podcast.

Beautifully emotional
I loved listening to the poignant joy and lovely tales told. It was so much better hearing it read rather than reading the words, the emotion and depth of Phil's words were a perfect combination

We are truly in Wolverhampton
Phil has a great take on growing up in two completely different cultures and the jokes are timed perfectly throughout. Wang's prose is the closest thing this generation has to Woody Allen....minus the, you know...red hair.
