About this listen
A family with a dark secret.
A child who refuses to speak.
Rosie must help her before it’s too late.
Nine-year-old Caitlin has a secret, but she cannot tell anyone about it. When her mother is sectioned under the Mental Health Act she and her three siblings have to go and live with her grandmother Julie and grandad Ryan.
Caitlin finds her new living conditions challenging: cat poo on the carpet, rubbish everywhere and the constant stare of her grandad – she retreats more and more into herself.
When foster carer Rosie Lewis meets Caitlin she knows something is deeply wrong with this little girl, who is withdrawn, afraid and refuses to speak. Rosie decides to take her in, but Caitlin’s silence continues, and Rosie knows she must act.
Why is Caitlin so afraid to speak?
Could it be that the family has a dark secret?
One that is so shocking it can no longer be hidden?
Critic reviews
"In Silenced Rosie Lewis has drafted a map of the human spirit. Rosie, a talented and empathic foster carer, acts as our guide, taking us from the depths of despair to the peaks of happiness as she tells the story of a remarkable little girl named Caitlin: how Rosie found her in awful circumstances and led her out of the darkness. Told with an innate understanding of child psychology and written with consummate skill, Silenced is a unique testament to the strength and resilience of children, and a reminder that love can save lives." (Shane Dunphy, childcare expert and bestselling author of Wednesday's Child)

Disturbing, heartbreaking, yet wholesome
Took me a beat to get used to the new tense, but ultimately I felt it worked well enough within the story- though I do question using current tense for a memoir.
My heart breaks for what those poor children went through. I hope they're all managing as best they can. It would have been nice to hear an update at the end of the book, since 3 years have passed since Rosie's involvement with the family.
The writing was wonderful as ever, but I was a little disappointed in Madeline Gould's performance. She used a completely different accent for Des this time around, instead giving his Scottish accent to Joan- who was English when she narrated Rosie's previous book.
This story broke my heart at times, yet it also made me smile. Megan and her pobbing- bless her. I wish only good things for that girl. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this audiobook.

Amazing book wonderfully narrated
Another wonderful book by Rosie Lewis. She makes you laugh and cry at the same time there is nothing I can say that I dislike about this book.
All I want to say is hurry up Rosie and write the next one.

Another good book after a bit of a wait.
Another great book by this author. What the powl family were put through was terrible. Without Rosie there story could have been very different. This book proves that people are not always what they seem on the surface.

All over the place
I love Cathy glass and maggie Hartley audios. But this was hard to keep up with and the voice over was annoying and irritating.
