About this listen

For fans of Gillian McAllister and Lisa Jewell comes a powerful and haunting novel about family, secrets and murder.

Is blood thicker than water?

At 5am one summer's morning, police diver Jen Harper wakes to find herself submerged in the silt of a river with no memory of how she got there.

Forty-eight hours later, she's called to dive in the same river in search of a missing woman, Claudia Franklin.

But for Jen, this is no ordinary job. Her and Claudia's families were entangled for decades—there is unresolved resentment between them, unspoken secrets.

Jen hasn't seen Claudia for twelve years now. Or has she?

Northwest listener

An interesting book to listen to, with some interesting characters in it. Some parts of the story were a bit jumpy and could have been expanded better and other elements left me disappointed.

Slow Burn

I enjoyed the book but at times lost interest. The narrator is somewhat monotonous. If she had read it with more expression in her voice it would have been different, but she drones on just with different accents. A book to be read not listened to.

Strong plot and characters

Providing the perfect blend of a strong, well-planned plot and a frustrating yet likeable protagonist, this surpassed my expectations. The end felt a little rushed, which is why I haven't given 5 stars, but the story was well-told, with enough twists and turns to remain believable without being ridiculous.
An easy listen which I finished in 3 sittings.
