About this listen

Sometimes love singles you out when you least expect it—or want it

Harper

Commitment was never my thing. But I've been directionless for far too long. It's time to take on some responsibilities and get my life together. Bidding on my best friend's brother at a bachelor auction didn't help me with that. Neither did having a hot, secret fling with him. Too bad that didn't stop me. Because now I'm in way over my head. And I'm afraid I might not be ready for the biggest commitment of all. Love

Max

I've got more commitments than I can handle. I became a single dad overnight. Between that and my coaching job, I don't have time for romance. Especially not with her. Harper's not only my little sister's friend, she's also my boss's daughter. There are a million reasons why we shouldn't be together. And I can't seem to remember any of them when she's in my arms

Singled Out, book 1 in the Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake series, is an emotional, sexy, opposites attract, small town contemporary romance. Download today and get ready to fall for Harper, Max, and Dragonfly Lake.

Max & Harper

Sebastian York as Max delivered an amazing accidental single dad trying to juggle new parenthood, two jobs and falling in love, unexpectedly. Erin Mallon voices Harper, a young woman is her early 30s still looking for direction and sense of achievement in life. Harper is a little wild but Max makes her see the world in a different perspective.
Loved the banter and friendships in the book and hearing little bits about previous couples.
This start of the series promises great things ahead and I’m so here for it.

Max and Harper!

Harper has always been driven by her artistic ability so even though she knows they love her she doesn’t feel they understand her. To honor a friend, she purchases a date with Max, her best friend’s brother, and as they spend time together, he gives her the support she needs to pursue her dreams.

When his cousin passed away Max became a single father to Danny, and he has become his sole focus. Due to his past and out of concern for Danny he doesn’t allow many people close but when Harper begins to break through his walls he must decide if the reward of being with her is worth the risk.

The banter between them is entertaining and the emotions heartfelt as what began as a friend with benefits relationship turns into so much more but first, they must make peace with their pasts. Both narrators were a perfect match for the characters as you feel the depth of the building relationship between them and how they were exactly what the other was missing in their life.

4.5 Stars!

Emotional, sexy, opposites attract, age-gap, small-town vibes! I’m here for it!

Thanks to the author, Amy Knupp, and the team at HomeCooked Books for providing me with an advanced audio review copy of this book. All opinions provided in this review are entirely my own.

Singled Out is the first book in the new “Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake” series by Amy Knupp. It features Harper Ellison and Max Dawson. Harper is besties with Max’s almost 10 years younger sister, and Max is a former NFL quarterback who now works at the local high school as a football coach and maths teacher for Harper’s dad. Even though they already know people in each other’s lives, they actually initially meet at a charity auction. Harper’s bestie dares Harper to bid on her brother Max in order to help Max get out of the house, and have some fun as Max recently, and unexpectedly, became a single dad. Both Harper and Max have no time or want any commitments; Max has a toddler to take care off and is sceptical of bringing a woman into his child’s life in case it doesn’t work out. Meanwhile, Harper is a bit of a commitment-phobe in all areas of her life, including her career and her romantic life. However, they have such a strong connection and have tons of chemistry, they simply can’t be apart. So, they decide to have a causal, friends with benefits situation. Of course, this progresses into something more.

This was such a sweet romance and Amy Knupp always kills it with the small-town vibes. I really enjoyed seeing both Max and Harper progress and grow in their individual lives, as well as, their relationship with one and another. I also enjoyed seeing the friendships the MCs have with the supporting characters all over the town. I look forward to continuing in this series.

The audio was excellent and was narrated by Erin Mallon & Sebastian York. They were both so good individually, but also complimented each other well. They were able to bring the story and its characters to life. I recommend this book in any format, but especially, in audio.

Chemistry

I really enjoyed this story. It was full of family, love, & friendship. I think the chemistry between Max & Harper was instant. Their connection grew & took them both a bit by surprise. I love Max’s passion for keeping Danny safe and putting him first. He was such a good dad, and watching him struggle with being a single parent was real!
The passion and chemistry between Max & Harper was great, they were so different and so good for each other.
I am looking forward to reading the next Dragonfly Lake story
Sebastian York and Erin Mallon are 2 of my favorite narrators and they both did such an amazing job with this story.

Emotional, fun, and engaging!

This is the first book in the Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake Series, a Small Town Romance. Harper and Max's story is beautifully written, emotional, fun, and engaging, filled with little angst, drama, small town gossip, and push and pull. They are both interesting characters, and they are perfect together. Max's son is adorable. I liked the family ties in the story. This is a great single dad, best friend’s brother, and age-gap romance. Sebastian York and Erin Mallon did an excellent job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it.

Singled Out

Singled Out is the first book in the Single Dads of Dragonfly Lake series. This was so sweet. This is a single dad, small town, age gap romance. Harper and Max have an amazing connection. They both are dealing with grief from losing a loved one. Harper is a free spirit and never wanted to be tied down including doing the same job every day. Max likes to plan things out in advance. These two couldn’t be more opposite. I really enjoyed this book.

Erin Mallon and Sebastian York did a fantastic job narrating this book.

Now this is a fun feel good listen

Now this is a fun feel good listen! I love a good single dad romance, but throw in small town feel with age gap and I am sold! Amy Knupp writes a story of finding your person and it's fabulous. Harper never wanted to settle down. She has other things in her life to do. So bidding on her best friend's brother at a charity auction should just be fun, right? She has always been friendly with Max, so one date should not be too strange. When the too click, almost too well, the fun really begins. Romantic nights, fun times with Max's son, and passion galore, these two are enjoying a friends with benefits situation. That's the deal. No feelings. There is too much at stake. Max works for Harper's dad, and Harper doesn't want to ruin her friendship with Harper, let alone be in a real relationship. And off it goes. Emotions galore with little angst make this small town romance so much fun. The gossip train is going and the question is will it be right? There is nothing more attractive than a single dad, and Max truly glows around his son. Harper is passionate about her job, but is finding it easy to be part of this make shift family. Will feelings be allowed? Will her father accept a relationship with Max? What will his sister think? And there is the age factor too. Give this first book in the series a listen, you too will fall in love with Dragonfly Lake.

Sebastian York and Erin Mallon bring this gem alive with a fabulous narration. I love these two together, each creating the personality of the characters, and always knowing the best way to bring them to life. I escaped into this one and it was easy to feel like I was right there with them. Fantastic performance.

Heartfelt and charming

Spicy in both the warm and the sexy varieties. Not just because Sebastian Yorke has the most beautiful deep timbre but also because the story is that of single dad meets I've sworn off men woman who wins him in a bachelor auction. Plus she is narrated by Erin Mallon, another of my top go-to narrators. The two bring the story to life, we believe in every word, we are absorbed by their story, wishing everything to work out for them and wanting to find ourselves in Dragonfly Lake which sounds idyllic.

Max had to leave the NFL owing to injury. Now he is a coach and a single dad who has been strong-armed into a bachelor auction supporting art in education, he is reluctant to be there mostly because his young son, Daniel, is at home with a cold, Max's mum as babysitter. He is a single dad so he has a lot on his hands and absolutely no room for love. Then there is his family, a sister who he loves to worry about and a little too much on his mind for love. At least that is what he thinks...

Harper has been a long time without direction in her life, not knowing what she wants to do, not helped by her commitment phobia. She knows it is time to take on some responsibility and get her life together. She is at the auction, supporting the cause in honour of her friend, Naomi, who has sadly passed. She has money left by Naomi to spend on the charity and thinks she might bid. Attending the evening with Dakota, Max's sister, she is urged to bid for Max ~ ten years older, very handsome and working for her dad...!

She takes a chance, bids and what follows is a thilling, sensual, sexy, funny relationship that Harper worries is rocketing her towards the biggest ever commitment... Love and for Max, well this is his sister's friend, his boss' daughter and he is sure there are reasons they shouldn't be doing this but can he remember them? Not at all. They have both surprised themselves with the relationship they are building but can they find a way to put all their doubts aside and allow their feelings some freedom for the future we wish they will have.

A lovely story, funny, sexy, heartfelt and narrated with a wonderful passion.

Cozy summer read

This is a nice, cozy, summer read. I love a single dad, small town romance, and this gave me the warm, fuzzy feelings I was expecting. This is the first book I’ve read by Amy Knupp and I enjoyed her writing.

I loved the cozy feel of this book. The lakeside setting just added to the charm of the story. I love small town romances because of the strong community that always surrounds the main characters, and this book delivers on that. I loved the strong female friendships in this book and the supportive side characters. I liked that this wasn’t your typical single dad story, in the Max’s son isn’t biologically his, so he doesn’t have the emotional wounds of divorce, or a break up or spousal loss to overcome. His challenges are different and it was refreshing to read. It was so heartwarming to see how much he loves his son and how he takes parenting seriously, despite the unexpected nature of his becoming Daniel’s dad.

Considering that both Harper and Max were averse to commitment, but for completely different reasons, it was interesting to see their relationship grow from friends-to-benefits to real feelings and how they battled with their reasons for wanting to avoid commitment. I really liked them as a couple. I think they were exactly what the other person needed. Harper brought out Max’s playful side and showed him that it’s alright to let loose sometimes. Max gave Harper the confidence and support to follow her dreams.

I really enjoyed the narration of this book. It was performed in dual style by Sebastian York and Erin Mallon. This was the first book I’d heard by Sebastian York and I enjoyed his performance. Erin Mallon has become one of my favourite narrators of late and she didn’t disappoint. One of my favourite things about her narration is how she nails the male voices every time. Both narrators really embodied the personalities of the characters they were portraying, including the side characters, which really brought the story to life.

*I received an advanced copy from Homecooked books and this is my honest review

Great audio!

Audiobook review:  Narrated by Sebastian York and Erin Mallon

4 stars for story / 5 stars for performance

This has the feel of a light forbidden romance in that Harper is Max's boss' daughter. I do love the will they / won't they feel of a friends-with-benefits romance. It's always fun while reading to anticipate who will fall first. I did love that both main characters were pretty firm in their desires to avoid a commitment until one of them wasn't. I also really liked the friends and family group in this series starter. The single dads aspect is wonderful, and I love reading about so many men willing to put their kids first. I can't wait to continue with this series.

The audio aspect was great. I will sing the praises of Erin Mallon every time I listen to her. She is a master at this craft and it's so enjoyable to listen to her voice not only her main character, but also the male counterpart and any side characters as well. Sebastian York is always a favorite of mine. I could listen to him talk for hours, which is a great thing when starting an audiobook.
