Summary

Scientists have discovered one simple trick which will make you live longer, reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer's, and make you slimmer, happier, and more attractive.

It’s not a magic pill or ointment- and it won’t cost you anything. The secret? Harnessing the incredible power of sleep.

Over six episodes, a world expert on sleep will act as a guru to an insomniac comedian, transforming their nocturnal habits and showing how you can do the same. In our hectic modern lives, sleep can often feel like a luxury - studies have found that 52% of Britons struggle to sleep, while around 70 million Americans suffer from a chronic sleep disorder. However, our sleep guru and their celebrity apprentice will reveal that everything we thought we knew about sleep was wrong, and teach us how to capitalize on one of the most often neglected resources for transforming our lives.

Over the course of a journey to improve the star’s sleep quality, they will demystify the science behind how and why we sleep so that we can use it to make concrete improvements to our health, wellbeing, and productivity.

Sleeping

This interesting topic was ruined for me by the awful muzak played throughout. I feel sorry for Mr Baddiel & Dr Leschziner -do they know this work has been destroyed by the vile addition of bad muzak? Horrid. Horrid. Horrid.

A really good journey into sleep problems. And a good way to begin to understand sleep

Enlightening. Thank you.

Brilluant to lisyen to. Learnt alot about sleel and the human mind. I related to alot of it and it helped me to understand in the end that although an insomniac since the age of 7, probably earlier, there's a possibility that i do not have a proem with sleep. I just need to have a life that accommodates my sleep behaviours.

Tackles insomnia symptoms with science, BUT...

Tackles insomnia symptoms with lots of big sciencey words and gadgets BUT...zero mention of getting physically tired or further, fit.

Fun & interesting chats with a variety of sleep experts, revealing poignantly real examples of how insomnia cripples nights and leeches into days; David presents in a very modern, tell-me-what-to-buy-to-fix-this-without-me-having-to-do-much, fashion.

Go for a run David.

Avoid avoid avoid

David Baddiel ignores all evidence based interventions and behaves as if he is unique/ special…

Arguably one/ you need(s) a modicum of self awareness to implement interventions successfully.

Poor Guy…

In short, avoid, avoid, avoid…

Did it help me sleep? Not for the reason you’d think, despite that...

.... it was an enjoyable podcast. David Baddiel’s voice is soothing and entertaining. I learnt that we have similar sleep issues. However, what he didn’t do was discuss diet. And RLS happens when we have a lack of Iron in our diet. So top up on the spinach. Interesting statistics and a fun little listen. Definitely not one for you if you have sleep issues, you may end up frustrated, since Baddiel himself couldn’t improve his sleep. What did work: Baddiel’s voice alone soothed me to sleep on occasion. I wonder if he does stories?....

Brilliant! Listened to it instead of sleeping 😊

I really liked the balance in this podcast, it was informative, funny, grounded and fascinating too. David - I’d love you to do more podcasts like this - you have the perfect voice! I’m a clinical psychotherapist, and research psychologist. I’ll be recommending this to anyone I work with that is struggling with sleep.

Amazing

Amazing podcast, full of ideas and thoughts around sleep, not just by one person but several specialists. Would love for there to be a follow up.

Really educational

I love David Baddiel and I’m obsessed with trying to get a good nights sleep so this is definitely aimed at me! The various experts he speaks to are not quacks so I trusted that this was constructive advice. But also David Baddiel’s voice is sooo sexy yet soothing that when I listened in bed I drifted off - result!!!

Self indulgent dismissive of evidence

Me, me,poor me!

David wallows in the attention from sleep experts but then fails to take the only real advice that has an evidence base to it.

In part3 we a meet CBTI therapist who does a great job of explaining the approach and it’s benefits but is spoken over with some unnecessary mansplaining by the doctor. This gives the impression whether intended or not that David was not interested in hearing her “yadiyadiya” which is borne out at the beginning of chapter 4 when he tells us that he didn’t bother following her advice. In the final episode the doc is full of tea and sympathy for poor David and his lifestyle though both admit that if he could find it within his poor weak self CBTI would be worth another go. Typifies the quick fix generation who’d rather take a pill than diet, spend a fortune on gadgets to get a six pack than exercise or spend £600 on a sleep robot than follow some sound advice to readjust a sleep pattern. Then moan and complain that nothing really works and it’s just part of the poor helpless creature I am.

Bullshit

When you finally ‘wake up’ to that fact and put a bit of effort in you might actually get some results
