About this listen
Blending humour and behavioural economics, the New York Times bestselling author of Predictably Irrational delves into the truly illogical world of personal finance to help people better understand why they make bad financial decisions, and gives them the knowledge they need to make better ones.
Why does paying for things often feel like it causes physical pain?
Why does it cost you money to act as your own real estate agent?
Why are we comfortable overpaying for something now just because we’ve overpaid for it before?
In Small Change, world renowned economist Dan Ariely answers these intriguing questions and many more as he explains how our irrational behaviour often interferes with our best intentions when it comes to managing our finances. Partnering with financial comedian and writer Jeff Kreisler, Ariely takes us deep inside our minds to expose the hidden motivations that are secretly driving our choices about money.
Exploring a wide range of everyday topics – from credit card debt and household budgeting to holiday sales – Ariely and Kreisler demonstrate how our ideas about dollars and cents are often wrong and cost us more than we know. Mixing case studies and anecdotes with tangible advice and lessons, they cut through the unconscious fears and desires driving our worst financial instincts and teach us how to improve our money habits.
Fascinating, engaging, funny and essential, Small Change is a sound investment, providing us with the practical tools we need to understand and improve our financial choices, save and spend smarter and ultimately live better.
Published in the US as Dollars and Sense.

Nothing new
For those who've read about behavioural economics (BE) this book has almost nothing new.
Also the jokes are annoying.
For the ones who are looking for a intro to BE with an emphasis on the money aspect, it might work.

Missed Dan’s voice
This book would have really benefitted from Dan voicing it:)
Good book that makes you think if you should really get yourself attached to money! Better way is to try to help your children understand the money principle.

Great book, definitely worth reading/listening to
Great book, written in a very compelling and funny way. Very good narrator.
Definitely a must read/listen to, especially if you want to improve your money management (or learn new jokes)

Ok but nothing new
I love the author, his work and the field in which he researches and writes. But this is a rehash of everything I've read before. He's done much better work than this but it's a good basic intro

Life changing
Genuinely fantastic. The life examples didn’t waffle on and it’s relatable. The content as in the lessons are transferable immediately. If I had to pick one thing that I took away from this book that has helped me the most in my day to day is this: Opportunity Cost.
Now if only there was an app for that 😂
The person speaking is great too. I never got tired of listening to him on my commutes.
Would recommend to anyone who wonders where their cash went two weeks after payday.

Heard it before
I'm a big fan of Dan and have bought all his previous book, but I only got an hour into this and the ideas are the same as previous books just specifically about money. I have even heard some of the studies before. If you haven't read any of the previous books this would be great, but not for the older fans
