I mange henseender indtager forfatteren Knud Sørensen en særposition i moderne dansk litteratur. Hans emne- og personkreds er særlig: det er de marginale dele af Danmark, de geografiske randområder og landbefolkningen - dem, der ikke råber højt i livet og i medierne - som interesserer ham. I Knud Sørensens verden har udviklingen ikke i samme grad som i storbyen smidigt taget menneskene med sig og forandret og tilpasset dem.
