You know, I love most of the Shane Ryan stories (there's a few I wasn't keen on), but this particular book I didn't like at all. I enjoy Shane's interaction with ghosts and that's why I like the stories, however, this one was different. I felt it had way too much violence, excessively in fact. There was just too much killing, or descriptions of killing that put me off. Especially the descriptions of torture and the killing of a child. Yes, I know this is fiction, but it's not the kind of story I want to read (or listen to). I like the Shane Ryan stories because they mainly involve ghosts. And while I don't mind hearing about a ghost killing someone here and there, this isn't what this story was about. The series started out good, but now, in book 4, it's turning into something quite different, and I found I wasn't enjoying it.
I will, undoubtedly, finish the last 2 books to complete the series, but I really hope the story improves. I think I preferred the old Shane Ryan stories as written entirely by Ron Ripley. Let's hope the conclusion to this series is better than book 4 was!
