About this listen
A ghost-turned-private investigator must rescue the souls of murder victims to atone for his mortal sins.
Jake Fletcher is an ex-exorcist. No, that wasn't a stutter. Once upon a time, he evicted ghosts for a living, at least until he got killed and became one. Now he works the streets as a phantom detective, offering his services to lost souls trapped between this world and the next. But will good deeds buy him a ticket to the Good Place, or is he destined to walk the Earth as a phantom for all eternity?
In the spirit of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, mystery, scares, and the paranormal collide in this bizarre noir. The Spectral Detective, Three-Book Collection combines the first three books in the Spectral Detective series: Spectral Detective, Corpse Reviver, and Twice Damned.

Different enough to Harry Dresden etc. to be worth a listen.
enjoyable listen

Don’t expect to do anything else while listening to these - I soon found my projects pushed aside as I sat totally absorbed in the stories.
The performance was excellent and definitely kept my attention.
Brilliant

Narrator: Mark Restuccia
The narrator does a great job except what was slightly annoying is that there are sentences in this that sound like its being read by someone else or was recorded/added at a different time? It’s noticeable so breaks the flow somewhat.
Deathday
This is a prequel to the Spectral Detective series and it’s a great start.
Jake Fletcher is an exorcist who thinks he’s laying spirits to rest but things are about to change for him. This character is witty and has a gruff charm, he’s a likeable rogue that’ll have you rooting for him in no time.
An enjoyable introduction to how Jake’s afterlife career as a spectral detective begins.
Bk 1: spectral detective
Jake Fletcher has been trying to stay off the radar of the big man upstairs so he can atone for some of his sins in life before his judgement. When a skinned corpse is found our spectral detective is just the man, sorry, ghost for the case.
Awesome story with a twist I didn’t see coming. Jake’s character is sarcastic and humorous which makes him relatable and very likeable.
Bk 2: corpse reviver
Jake Fletcher ghost detective’s life, or rather afterlife, is never dull.
This case is an attention grabber with a necromancer, vampires and an angel that’s determined to drag Jake back, kicking n screaming if necessary, to face judgement but before that happens our quirky witted spook is determined to wipe his slate clean or at least have it tilted in his favour. I’m really enjoying this whole world.
Bk 3: twice dammed
Jake’s latest case is Hell, quite literally!
Several revelations for Jake in this one as he unravels the mystery behind a break in and tries to help a tricked soul.
Another very enjoyable story, if you’re looking for a read/listen that’s fun and entertaining then this world is for you.

Set in London, the humour was very British, again another huge plus point for me. I went into listening to this collection of books with no expectations of what was going to happen or what the storyline was, it’d come recommended and I’m glad it did.
Jake is, surprise surprise a spectral detective, but there’s a twist in the tale, one I’m not going to tell you as it’s revealed in the first book, but this sets him off on a journey which weaves its way through the collection and throws a twist at the end I never saw coming.
Well written, the characters literally came to life (pardon the pun), and it was a collection I thoroughly enjoyed becoming absorbed in.
The humour at times had me laughing out loud, which given I listen to audio while out shopping in supermarkets made me wonder when I’d get one of those self hugging jackets at times.
Narrator Mark Restuccia’s vocal skills and natural comedic delivery of even the most subtle of punchlines is totally on point and adds a whole new dimension to this book. Add in the ability to voice different characters he really brought these books to life and made me want to keep listening. It was clear to me just how much he enjoyed reading these, it came through in the narration.
I would highly recommend this audio,

Mark Restuccia is excellent he is for me now the voice of Jake Fletcher like what David Jason was to Del Boy.
His story telling abilities are second to none in my opinion and because of him I have now bought the other 2 books in the uncanny kingdom collection which carrys on the storyline of Jake partnered with his zombie self solving murders.
Looking forward to starting those.
Loved every minute

Really well narrated, Mark pulls off the atmosphere and voices really well (although a couple of the peripheral characters sound a little Horrid Henry.
All in all, definitely worth the listen!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.
“About as useful as Aquaman in Iraq”

This world is rich with characters from all manner of lore and legend yet David Bussell has managed to tweak them just ever so slightly to add his vision of what the uncanny creature is in his world.
This three-book series takes us from when Jake Fletcher steps (cough) from the living world into his ghost self and through the story of how he tries to repent for the things he did wrong in his living life that he can amend in his dead one by helping as many souls find the light and give them the ability to ascend.
I am never one for spoilers so I will avoid detail...but I will not avoid is raving about just how much I enjoyed this trilogy. I look forward to hearing more from this spectral detective and other characters in this frightful yet amazing uncanny world.
Mark Restuccia narrating the voice of Jake was totally genius. His tone and acting brought visions of Danny Dyer to mind when voicing Jake. 10/10 for narration, dialogue voice acting, and bringing emotion to the tough "detective".
