About this listen

A college hockey romance from bestselling authors S. Massery and S.J. Sylvis.

Sticks and stones may break our bones…Hockey is my life.

After Wren Davis puts my dreams of the NHL in jeopardy, I vow to make her life hell if she ever comes near me again.

But she’s my best friend’s foster sister, and even though they don’t live together anymore, their bond is still tight, which makes avoiding each other extra difficult.

Especially when I show up at Shadow Valley University and learn my new room comes with an unwelcome addition: Wren Davis.

As much as I try to make her life hell, she gives it right back, until she’s not just under my skin but constantly on my mind.

But some things can’t be forgiven, and fraternizing with the enemy is the last thing either of us want.

This book was awesome in it's own way!

Stone and Wren started this story in highschool as frenemies and after one shady act, they become totally enemies.

Fast forward to their college years and some misfortunes from fate, and they're living in the same hockey house... Sharing the same bedroom.

Between their bickering and pranks, things get heated, and Stones starts to see that Wren is not that selfish girl who throw him under the bus in highschool... She's fighting her own demons and nightmares alone.

I loved how he becomes so protective of her.
How obsessive and passionate he is!
She deserved to have someone looking only at her, doing everything for her and he's trying his best to keep her safe.

Chef's kiss to their relationship and no third act breakup, leaving them to fight against their enemy, and not each other.

I also loved all the hockey boys and can't wait to read their stories too!

The audiobook was another winner!

Dark College Hockey Romance

This is the first book in the Shadow Valley U Series, a dark college hockey romance. Wren and Stone's enemies to lovers romance is well written, and engaging, filled with banter, angst, danger, and twists and turns. They are perfect together. The characters are well developed, and interesting. The storyline is entertaining, and intriguing. I liked the brotherhood in the story. Alex Kydd and Keira Stevens did a great job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to more in the series.

hockey romance done right

This book is jam-packed with all the hockey romance goodness you could ever want!

Individually, these authors are auto buy authors for me, and together, the results are perfection.
This book has all the dark bully elements we know and love from S. Massery and the sweet tender moments from SJ Sylvis.

Wren and Stone are definitely meant to be together. The back and forth between them was the perfect build-up for their relationship especially as they had so much history together, so when they finally decided to give into the super hot chemistry between them the results were HOT and their relationship progressed quickly.

Wren story is heartbreaking she has been through so much in her life, but she doesn't let it bring her down.

This book is all go from the very beginning and I couldn't stop listening to it. The narrators are amazing and brought Wren and Stone to life perfectly.

So good

Best friend's sibling stories will get me every time. Throw in some hockey and a sprinkle of bully romance then you have this little gem. I've read from just one of these authors before so I now have SJ Sylvis on my TBR. This was so good and I received an advance of the audio and it was fiiire.

addicitive read

As good as the 1st time reading. Narration has a stronger impact on emotions. Highly recommended.

Sticks and Stones is a slightly dark hockey romance. Enemies to lovers, bully, brother’s best friend, forced proximity, one bed. Hot, steamy and sexy af. The chemistry and attraction was off the roof, palpable from the pages. They both from two completely different worlds, with a past they don’t want to remember. Stone and Wren, despite how badly they wanted to stay apart, couldn’t win against the pull between them. Could pretend all they wanted that only hate was between them, but once forced to live in the same room… all bets were off….
I was hooked from the 1st page by the plot, how it evolved, and unexpected twists coming up when least expected. Cannot wait for the next book from this duo.

Double Obsessed!! 💫

I was already absolutely obsessed with this book! So naturally I had high expectations for this audio because it was already an amazing story, and boy did this one deliver!!

This performance has basically doubled my obsession with this book, and that’s saying something cause this was on my infinity rating shelf so that was already at my highest level.

This one stole the all the MFCK stars in the sky to add to my rating for it, this was an entire galaxy worth stars and the fact it’s done that without being a duet narration, which is my absolute fave, really shows how good this narration was 💫

Phenomenal!

This book was so good! This frenemies to enemies to lovers, forced proximity, hockey romance was phenomenal! I loved the banter, the push and pull, and the chemistry between these two.

I loved Stone and Wren’s relationship. And I absolutely loved how obsessive and possessive Stone was!

The narrators were perfection for this audiobook. I thought Alex Kydd and Kiera Stevens did such amazing work bringing Stone and Wren to life.

I absolutely love both authors and this book is the best of both of them. I was hooked from the first page. Both authors have created a story see less lit together. The pace and content of the book was spot on. The characters were interesting and the dual pov added depth to their storyline. Wren is a brilliant fmc. She is feisty and strong, she tries to hide her vulnerabilities from others, especially Stone. They have been circling each other for a long time. When she makes a life altering decision it also affects Stone’s life too. When their paths cross again in college, Stone is out for revenge. He doesn’t think through his actions and inadvertently puts Wren in danger. Their chemistry is so good, I love their banter and how they challenge each other. Their hate, furling their list and then the way Stone changes his mind about Wren. How possessive and obsessive he is; I loved it! It was fun to see the names of the characters from the Hockey Gods series (S Massery) and Bexley U series (SJ Sylwis).
This book has been one of my favourites to read ever. It is a darker romance with trauma in the fmc’s storyline. The chemistry of the characters and their connection, plus the spice…perfect.

I highly recommend reading and I can’t wait to read more about the characters in the book, eg Evan!

Fantastic collaboration! Love Wren & Stone!

Get ready for his enemies to lovers, hockey romance brought to you in collaboration by S Massery and SJ Sylvis! This is a fantastic listen, a little dark a times, a little funny and a whole lot of push pull that kept me listening, needing to know what was going to happen next. Wren and Stone were acquaintances in high school. The foster sister of his best friend, Evan, these two tolerated each other. Until the day Wren had to make a split second decision that would change both their lives. Now in college, she needs a place to stay, and her Evan lets her stay in the hockey house. But the last bedroom available is for Stone when he comes, and now the enemies are roommates. Pranks played on each other until it becomes dangerous and now Stone knows this foreplay of sorts is making him all alpha protective over Wren. Wren is scared, and rightly so. But the magic of this story is these two authors had me on edge, wondering who to trust, what was really happening, and how it would all end. The kind of romantic, bully, enemies, sports romance I love, I could not stop listening. It's Sunday, and everyone was told to leave me alone until I was finished and what an ending! Loved this first installment in the series and I cannot wait to see what is in store for me next!

Alex Kydd and Keira Stevens are perfectly cast for this new adult romance. Kydd has that edgy, dangerous sound as Stone. He keeps that bully feel for just so long and then his over protective hug was there in an instant. Love his voice. Stevens climbs into the mind of Wren. She is a complex character, a woman trying to survive, has had a tough childhood and has that strong, stubborn streak, yet has fear that is so real, I was feeling it! Amazing story telling brought this story alive and it's incredible.
