A contemporary Gothic series to chill your bones and warm your heart....
A body found hanging from the ceiling fan in the tower room of the old manor house on Storm Island.
For 19 years, Kate Pomeroy has suppressed that memory. A second-year resident in surgery, she thinks she has her life under control. But a curious conversation overheard while taking a catnap launches her on a descent into a world filled with nightmarish visions that cause her to doubt her own sanity.
An unexpected romance battered by waves of terror, old and new
Sent to Storm Island to rest and recuperate from an apparent breakdown, Kate is forced to come to grips with memories of the summer her mother died as well as new terrors that plague her mind. Even the blossoming of an unexpected romance with islander, Jeremy Bradshaw, cannot keep her fears at bay for long.
A mystery of her own making?
The discovery of a strange little silo, hidden deep in the woods, spurs Kate to action as she tries to unravel its mysteries. But is the silo real or just another illusion created by her tortured mind?
Storm Island, A Kate Pomeroy Mystery, is the first book in the award-winning Kate Pomeroy Gothic Mystery Series by Linda Watkins.

Storm Island - Review
This book was a bunch of ups and downs for me. I liked it but it definitely wasn't my favorite. The story itself was interesting, if not very obvious. I think one of the reasons I had issues with it was because of how obvious it was. Usually, I can guess some of the plot points due to how many thrillers/mysteries I read but I felt like there was no hiding what was actually happening in this one. And the fact that it took Kate as long as it did to figure it out, was a little annoying. However, I appreciated the story in itself and found myself wanting to continue it, despite knowing what was happening.
Kate was a good main character. I did like her but for someone who is supposed to be very smart, it took her a long time to figure everything out. I felt like some of the stuff was so obvious and that she should have came to the realizations earlier. I know her sanity was in question which probably made her wonder as well, but it came off that she knew she wasn't insane. So instead of taking a step back and trying to figure it out early, she waited and waited and waited until *light bulb*. However, I do appreciate her not giving up and getting to the bottom of everything.
Overall, Storm Island by Linda Watkins was a good mystery/thriller. It definitely didn't make me gasp in shock or give me any twists I didn't know. The plot itself was very obvious which made some parts hard to read because it took Kate too long to figure out. But just as soon as I was getting to the point of screaming "COME ON, KATE, IT'S OBVIOUS" - she stepped it up and figured it out. If you like mysteries and thrillers, I would absolutely give this one a chance... as long as you're not looking for huge twists at the end.
AUDIO REVIEW
Note: The narration does not affect my rating of the book
I really enjoyed this narration. I thought Larissa did a great job in telling the story and brining Kate's voice to life. I love doing mysteries/thrillers over audio and this is one I'd absolutely recommend listening to.

mystery
Loved the narration of Larissa Thompson
Kate Pomeroy is training to become a doctor, but she has a breakdown and is sent to Storm Island to recover. Arriving at the place, Kate is finding recovery is about the last thing she will find. This is a intelligent mystery suspense story.

Interesting psychological thriller
I was lucky enough to receive a free review copy, and I'm very happy that I did. However, I was expecting a gothic mystery but what I got was a psychological thriller which I am not a huge fan of, and whilst this one is good it's also annoying as this genre always is hence the 3 stars for the story,
The story starts in a hospital but soon moves to Storm Island where things become very strange, although most of the story is predictable, I am still left wondering about the coffee at the start of the story, what was up with that? What REALLY happened to Kate that day? I know what I think happened but it's never explained. The tale is tidied up pretty neatly though at the end so all in all it entertains which is what fiction is all about.
The narration is marvellous throughout.
I can recommend this highly to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers.

Good intentions leads to cover up murder
Hearing part of a conversation leads to being off sick being given drugs that may not be genuine ?plus date rape type drug in ?safe environment Murder high stakes plenty of twists and turns
Deals with realistic issues in romance
