Summary
Enter a world of gargoyle protectors, rising demons, and one girl with an explosive secret.
Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens - gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.
When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again - but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed....

Promising but eventually a letdown
It started ok, I liked the way characters interacted. But book started skipping a bit after few chapters.
Main characters do not have chemistry between them. Their encounters border somewhere between teenage cringe, annoyance and predictability. Sometimes it was painful to listen.
Action paste is just completely off for me, in the middle I felt like it was different book.
I lost interest in the story and characters.
Lector performance of men's voices just didn't do it for me. Wasn't ruining the book, but also didn't save it.
I just got bored and stop reading.

Great Story
This was actually a really great story, and of course as JLA does is throw a curve ball you never see coming until the last minute. Can’t wait to see what happens next to Zane & Trinity

classic fantasy romance story/plot
classic fantasy story plot, love the fact it has gargoyles, but if you have read many romantic fantasy books then it can seem similar to others but still overall a good read and I enjoyed as fantasy romance seem to be the books i listen to most even if I can see some plots coming.

Enjoyable romantic fantasy adventure
Jennifer L. Armentrout clearly likes certain tropes: unusually special girl, soldier-type love interest, mythical bonds, love triangles etc. This being only my second JLA series, I’m not finding it too repetitive yet and I think her plot development has gained more subtlety than is evident in the Covenant series. It’s a creative and enjoyable read - pretty heavy in the romance (I’ve never seen dry humping described as the height of passion before). I like the fact that the heroine has a disability yet doesn’t let it hold her back. The narration is good, the timbre of the male voices isn’t great, but it works enough. I would read the next instalment.

Really enjoyed this book and the twists. Started after listening to the blood and ash series.
