A brilliant story, with good twists and turns. The recording however, was obviously an older recording and in places it gets a bit quiet, but the narrator is clear with a lovely reading voice, so you still get lost in the story regardless.

Great story, but old recording

As with all Dick Francis books the thriller rips along. Provides detailed information about parts of racing, and, this time, similarly detailed information about the gem industry ! The reader is excellent with male voices, a little odd when reading in the female voice. The whodunnit part of the tale is good and multi-faceted .....like the diamonds at the centre of the story.

Classic Dick Francis

Entertaining

High-class rip-roaring twaddle. If you are expecting a cerebral thriller along the lines of Mr Le-Carre, abandon hope etc. A stonking good gallop through an enjoyably ludicrous plot, there is only one extended ho-hum bad sex moment, nearer blazing saddles in the county set, albeit nobody has troubles with baked beans, to be honest. Sit back, suspend your disbelief, and enjoy the ride.

Rip-roaring twaddle.

Good story, brilliant reader unfortunately has poor sound quality in spots otherwise would be 5 stars.

Good story, well read.

A great read, pity the technical recording was sub standard, ŵith back ground noise and hissing throughout the total book. Hence I have to mark down the overall read.

Great read

Another thoroughly gripping story from this author!

The ever present plot from Dick Francis involving a jockey or a horse is of course in place and this time the other storyline is involving jewels, diamonds to be precise. I even understand the jewel business a little bit more after listening to this.

Only disappointment is the poor recording quality, but the story and Tony Britton’s gifted narration soon makes that inconsequential.

Time to download another book from this author Straight away - I cannot wait!

Two clever and gripping storylines come together in a satisfying conclusion
