About this listen

Rollicking, no-holds-barred account of New Order's entire history.

Two acclaimed albums and an upcoming US tour - Joy Division had the world at their feet. Then, on the eve of that tour, the band’s troubled lead singer, Ian Curtis, killed himself. The next time they got together, they were a new band.

That band was New Order - their label was Factory Records; their club, The Haçienda. Their distinctive sound paved the way for the dance music explosion that followed, earning them the reputation as one of the most influential bands of their generation and changing the course of popular music.

Following on from his best-selling titles The Haçienda and Unknown Pleasures, Peter Hook has written a rollicking, no-holds-barred account of the band's entire history. Substance is packed with never-before-seen detail, discographies and technical information. This is possibly the most entertaining memoir ever written by a British musician.

What a story ..!! Superbly told by the Big Man himself… suprised he’s still alive after all those mad scrapes and battles…. Nice 1 Hooky…✌️

Shame it was only 16 hrs long…

some of the geek alerts were a bit long and tedious. but it's a minor quibble

The honesty.

Very enjoyable as both a Joy Division and New Order fan Pete's stories were a great insight

Very Enjoyable

Very, very interesting for those who were there, or really, really wished they had been.

Thanks to Hooky I play the bass, quite badly. Not sure that he should have a shed.

Nice to know Peter got his spanners checked

Loved this book. It’s an incredibly honest Take on the story of an iconic band full of highs and lows and more highs.
What I like best is it’s like Hooky is telling you his story as it’s brilliantly read. Really enjoyed this.

One of the best music books

A frank, honest, amusing account of one the best bands that this country has ever produced. This is a must listen for any New Order & Joy Division fan and produces many laugh out loud stories. The book also includes insight into some of the bands that they have encountered on the way, most notably The Stone Roses and an insight into their early years which was a welcome bonus.

If I were to have any criticism of the book, I would have liked to hear about the legal events of the New Order split and also more on Peter Hook And The Light but maybe that was due to legal reasons.

This certainly didn’t seem like an 18 hour long book and is that good that I will be listening to it again!

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish!
I’m no New Order fan and I never write reviews but this is well worthy! I listen to a lot of autobiographical books and this blows them all out of the water, especially if you’re interested in bands behind the scenes - the presentation and narration is fantastic, loved the ‘Geek Alerts’ too! 20 hours and I was so sad when it finished, I’m actually going to listen to it again straight away. It’s in my top 5 books of all time.

Everyone should listen to this book!!

Best autobiography I've ever read. And I've read Thatcher's, lol. I like New Order a lot, but am not a superfan (haven't seen the films yet, either). That said I had to ration my listening as it was so entertaining - and it's not a short book at all.

Compelling and very funny (except for the serious bits, of which there are a couple) from start to finish

The Perfect Autobiography

Loved Peter Hook's narration, loved the geek bits too. Highly recommend this audio book. It is very funny in places, littered with revelations, and tinged with poignancy. Wonderful. Will no doubt listen again too.

Wonderfully narrated. Funny, revealing, poignant and captivating.
