Summary
The most acclaimed Scottish novel of all time, Sunset Song is a powerful portrait of a land and people in turmoil, seen through the life and struggles of its heroine, Chris Guthrie.
In the years up to and beyond the First World War, Chris' resilience, like the land itself, endures despite everything and is portrayed with a lyrical intensity that echoes through the years and still resonates today.

Perfect Narration of the Perfect Book
Forget the recent disappointing film version, this reading by Eileen MacCallum is definitive. She captures the accent, the humour and the profound humanity of Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s masterpiece.
I know that she also recorded the other two books in the trilogy, Cloud Howe and Grey Granite, at the same time as this version was made for Canongate back in the days of cassette tapes. Please release them as well. The digital works deserve to share the complete delights of A Scots Quair Trilogy - probably the best Scottish fiction ever written.

Astoundingly good
I have be browsing on here in and off since joining to see if there ever would be an audio book of Sunset Song and here at last it is. This is my favourite book so it was more than a wee bit trepidation I had wondering if it would be read well. I needn’t have worried. The narration is perfect, authentic Scots doric- only off a bit on the highland voice which to my ear was more Irish than island but as this was a tiny bit of the book it didn’t matter. The narrator rendered the gossipy, noisey, opinionated, folk of Kinraddie brilliantly and although set a 100 years ago I recognise so much of my ain folk in the characters that the book has a timelessness to it.

Fantastic narration of a classic Scottish story.
This was not just an audio book but rather an amazing event! I had tried to read this book many years ago but gave up. Eilen McCallum has brought it to life in the most wonderful way and made it so accessible and a joy to listen to. If you are Scottish this is a part of your heritage! Lewis's ability to paint a picture and create the atmosphere of the area is amazing. Very lyrical and rich descriptive writing and an insight into how people related in the past in these out of the way areas. I don't want it to end but I know I'll listen to it again and again.
I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

Wonderful
Fantastic narration. I've read Sunset Song many times and will never tire of it. Eileen McCallum's voice is perfect and added so much to an already firm favourite of mine. I'm looking forward to listening again.

beautifully read by Eileen McCallum
It was narrated with a soft Doric accent which brought the novel to life for me.

A wonderful read of a wonderful novel.
Shame that we don't have readings by the same narrator of the two other books

Unmatched
Lyrical. Deeply affecting. Of its time yet timeless. Beautifully narrated with the lilting rythyms of an undiluted Scots dialect. I had forgotten just how good it was.

One of the best Scottish novels, read exquisitely
I've read the book several times. I love it. I bought the audible version on a whim, but didn't know what to expect. Eileen McCallum is so good at reading this. She brings it to life in a way I could never do in my own reading of it. It's told in a manner of someone who lives in Kinraddie, and enjoys the telling of tales of other folk's business. I'm so glad I bought it.
