About this listen

Revised by the author, Casey Hammer, with additional content. The original Surviving My Birthright has received a facelift and includes a foreword by Heather McDonald, actress, comedian, and host of Juicy Scoop. Reviews are by Edward Jay Epstein, author of Dossier: The Secret History of Armand Hammer, and Lauren Skae, @thezenblonde. Entrepreneur Romi Cortier adds his take on From the Inside Looking Out, a recap of Casey’s life. And lastly, Casey Hammer adds what’s to come and coming soon, featuring her new book Hammertime: Surviving & Thriving, along with poetry throughout.

The name Armand Hammer conjures up many aspirational ideals. Billionaire. Industrialist. Successful businessman. Philanthropist. Art collector. It sounds like the idealized American success story. However, the reality of growing up Hammer had a very dark side, with very real consequences.

Violence. Addiction. Abuse. These are just some of the realities that Casey Hammer, the only granddaughter of Armand Hammer, had to overcome. As dark as her recollections are, Casey is the embodiment of courage and strength. She weathered the storm and came out stronger on the other side. Hers is a story of survival, hope, and inspiration. Lift the veil and see the realities of growing up Hammer.

very interesting listen, but really struggled with the tone of the narrator. I would not recommend for that reason.

interesting story, but narration not great.

Loved it. Listened to it in one sitting. Some places it felt like this was my world.

So inspirational 🙌

While I know it is her story, her reading it, actually did not help. 8 times she repeated the same line twice, no space at all between the end of one chapter and the beginning of another and such a robotic, unchanging tone, devoid of all emotion. I understand it might have been read this way to distance herself from the trauma and pain, but for me it also distanced me from it which is a shame.

Incredible life story, but wrong narrator

This was interesting and gave some good insights into to the family backstory. But was a bit reparative and could have better contextualesd things. The book needs a professional edit, as it has lots of mistakes and points where sentences are repeated by mistake.

Reasonable read

Its hard to listen to this story without feeling. I feel so sorry for that and I'm glad to listen to it in the same time. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Terribly read. Weird intonation, repeats lines as if correcting herself. Terribly written but the story itself is fascinating. Should have got a ghost writer.

Terrible recording and reading
