About this listen

How far would you go to protect the ones you love? And how much further would you go to betray them?

Nine out of ten murders are committed by someone the victim knows. So when Steph Ryder is found dead, DS Allie Shenton begins her investigation close to home, starting with Steph’s family and friends.

Soon the lies, backtracking and secrets multiply as each of the suspects tries to cover up their actions on that fateful night. Before long, Allie homes in on Steph’s ambitious and powerful husband, Terry. Convinced he’s hiding something, she interviews him again and again, each time seeing through his smooth charms.

As the trail grows hotter, the web of deceit pulls tighter and more bodies pile up. Allie must race against time to uncover the shocking truth of who killed Steph before the suspects get away with murder.

Set within the gritty streets of Stoke-on-Trent, this fast-paced British detective novel is a dark murder mystery with an emotional pull.

Taunting the Dead is the first novel in the Allie Shenton series of crime thrillers from the million selling British author, Mel Sherratt, and perfect for fans of DS Butler, LJ Ross, Angela Marsons, Joy Ellis, Rachel McClean, Caroline Mitchell and Meg Jolly.

very hard to keep interested

Not an easy book to stay interested in .I don't know if it was the reader or the tale but I found myself fazing out and completely loosing the plot.

Convaluted and confusing

Poor Alexa was so patient with my constant instructions to restart chapters so I could listen again, After finishing (which I nearly didn't) I still have no idea of anyone's motive for anything. Too many major characters and not enough plot. The narrator was ok but didn't always help me to know who was speaking when there were several characters in the scene.

Narration not the best

The story synopsis sounded interesting enough but the narration was ponderous and didn't do the story any favours. Didn't finish and glad it was a free book so able to return.

Broke Stoke

Hasn’t really portrayed Stoke as there is no mention of monkey dust so far 😁 it’s an apocalypse now, the accents weren’t accurate but again how would you even start … thank you for trying 👌🏻

Acceptable for a story that I didn't have to use a credit for

Some parts were a little far fetched
A woman police Sargent wouldn't let someone make advances towards her

Excellent!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Bearing in mind it was included in my subscription, I found the narrator very competent and the storyline was intriguing from start to finish. There are a lot of characters to get to grips with but as long as you follow the story, you'll grasp who's who. There isn't any unnecessary violence/gore and the bedroom scenes are nicely glossed over. I listen to audiobooks all day every day so I know the good, the bad and the ugly! This one was pretty good and I would definitely listen to other books by both author and narrator.

Numerous characters

I found it difficult to remember which unpleasant character was which until I was well into the story. They all seemed much of a type. Lots of twists and a good story.
