When a rare $5,000 bill arrives in the mail, interior decorator Madison Night knows it's a message from her past. A (supposedly) strong, independent female main protagonist who lets two men treat her like a doormat because (despite neither of them displaying much in the way of redeeming features) she finds them physically attractive.
They both, at different times, see it as their right to break into her property and take liberties with it. One of them even abuses his position as a policeman in order to gain access, and she does NOTHING in either case. No changing of locks, no collecting back spare keys left with gullible (if well intentioned) friends and neighbours. No telling said neighbours how stupid they are for handing her keys over to glib strangers pretending to be her boyfriend... No registering complaints with the Police Department about unethical behaviour and abuse of position... NOTHING.
The author is presenting a woman setting heself up to potentilaly get into two abusive relationships with controlling men, and presents it as if it's something desirable. That's just A World Of Wrong and I don't find it an entertaining story to listen to.
Our Heroine is also placed in danger by a policewoman who handcuffs her to a desk and abandons her at the mercy her abductors while helping another abducted person to escape. Yet she does NOTHING about having been put into that situation (even though it results in her getting shot).
This character is presented as a complete submissive who lets others dominate her. It does not make for an attractive or engaging main protagonist.
