About this listen
A public library in California where none of the books have ever been published is full of romantic possibilities. But when the librarian and his girlfriend must travel to Tijuana, the Kingdom of Fire and Water, they experience a series of strange encounters.

"Let's go back to San Francisco."
There is an innocence about this book which belies the title, a gentle calm. Told from the perspective of the librarian, the 31 year old first talks with pride about the beautiful library where he both works and lives, available to receive books 24 hours per day, books brought there by the authors, old and young, to be stored in the library whatever the format. Given a home, rather than to be borrowed and read. And the books brought to the library that day are listed - including one by a Richard Brautigan, Just Another Book. Then a beautiful.young woman arrives with her contribution, a small volume bewailing her stunning hour glass body and, as we!l as taking in her book, the librarian takes her in as well.
And this is where my interest failed, with the graphic description of their liaison and, although it later continues as the aftermath unfolds, I found myself no longer beguiled by the beautiful simplicity of the thoughts in the librarian's head and never recaptured that feeling of gentle serenity.
Narration by Will Damron is superb. His gentle, well paced voice seems to perfectly capture the inner voice of the keeper of the books and the library: An excellent pairing of reader and subject.

Dipping my toes in past waters…..
Having been in my 20s during the 60s this story feels very real to me. The old joke about the 60s and 70s (if you remember it then you weren’t really there) has vibrations in this piece of writing in that it has that feeling of missing out on parts of life because of too much dope/acid/drink/idealism/…add your own words.

Music to my ears
Considering today's America and it's approach to Abortion this is a very important book.Written in the 1960's a brave book and so meaningful to today's dark decision making.
