About this listen
A delightful biography of a celebrated Stradivarius cello and an inviting overview of cello music and musicians by world-famous concert cellist Carlos Prieto.
The book is published by University of Texas Press.
"Music as a great adventure of mind and body: this is what Carlos Prieto gives us in this spirited book." (Carlos Fuentes)
"Carlos Prieto is a true champion of the cello." (Yo-Yo Ma)
©2006 University of Texas Press (P)2017 Redwood AudiobooksSadly, there is also a lot in this book which is irritating. The performance is actually beyond irritating. Why has nobody briefed Mr. Arnott on how to pronounce names? All but the English ones are without exception mispronounced. I have slowly come to accept that few English native speakers can pronounce Bach properly, but this was a true cringe-fest.
The story of Prieto himself is insightful in many ways, but he more or less gives us the entire content of a (sometimes very short) section in the heading. This makes actually listening to it superfluous.
