About this listen
In the 1500s an almanac full of magic spells was put together by someone intent on bringing about the End Times. It has resurfaced and is being used indiscriminately.
An unexpected lunar eclipse. A poisonous fog that cripples the capital. Statues that weep blood.
As the catalogue of calamities mount, fear and paranoia provoke rumours of terrorist attacks. But from whom?
History professor Juliet Harrington is an authority on 16th-century mysticism and a long-time believer in the existence of the Almanac of Forbidden Wisdom, a potent spellbook. Legend insists it was compiled in that period by a cabal of powerful occultists. Its magic is summoned only at disastrous cost, signalled by the Auguries. Juliet is convinced that the recent plague of disasters means someone reckless is using the book - and she has little time left to stop them.

Wow a story with some interesting twists

I felt the plot and particularly the dialogue were just not up to it.
It reminded me at times of a book aimed at teenagers!
No Stephen King!

The awful narration.

The premise sounded good but the writing hasn't been wholly believable and hasn't dragged me in at all.

I am however not in any position to comment on the story of this book. The first 9 chapters came and went without leaving any impression or memory. I found myself constantly stepping back to re-listen chapters, and missing them altogether again.
So is the story any good? Bugger me if I know! That horrid voice killed the book for me. And when absorbing the story is simply impossible because of the narration, someone made a bad choice, to my mind. And screening the other reviews, i'm not alone in this.
Why in heaven's name, when the previous books by this author absolutely shone thanks to the narrations by David Rintoul, Sean Barrett, & Peter Wickham, do you decide to wreck it completely with this one?
It might be a good idea to redo this one with a different ( male ) narrator. At least, that would give the story any chance.
Why? Narration kills this book
