About this listen
By fate and fire, a being four millennia old is reborn in Mali in a short story of contemporary African life and ancient secrets by the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning author of the Binti trilogy.
Issaka has returned home to Timbouctou and a devastating al-Qaeda raid. His only hope for survival is Faro, a stunning, blue-beaded supernatural entity who rises free from the flames of her imprisoning book as it burns. Compelled to follow Faro, Issaka is opening his eyes to their shared history and the ancestral wisdom of his own past.
Nnedi Okorafor’s The Black Pages is part of Black Stars, a multi-dimensional collection of speculative fiction from Black authors. Each story is a world much like our own. Read or listen to them in a single sitting.

Wanted More
Circled back a few times but enjoyed it nonetheless. Would read again if developed into a bigger book

Short and engaging
I loved the concept of the story but I felt it could have been longer.
I would of liked to know more about the keepers of the books and how they came by them.
The book was read very well and the speakers voice kept me focused and immersed in the story.

Transported!
A great take on the Djinn myth mixing fantasy with a real political landscape. Transported!

Great story….however
I really enjoyed this story and I have no complaints about the narrator. However ! The end… what was that about? It was such an ending threat you’d immediately assume that there was a part 2, there is NOT! I didn’t like the ending as I like my ending clean, they must make sense, things my tie together tidily and this ending was far from that ! So, for me, overall it was a 4.

Never disappointed by Nnedi Okorafor
A story of the brutal loss of a family and a country’s history and culture at the hands of religious bigots—and the release of the trapped spirit who ultimately proves to be a saviour.
The short story format makes me wish this was a longer piece of work.
