This was very enjoyable to listen to. The narrator was really good. It's a supernatural murder mystery with cataclysmic consequences if the good guys don't win!

This is my second favourite Talbot after Delicate Dependency. Its a shame that his work has fallen into obscurity. This is not the most original of stories, I think most will see where it is going before it happens, but it is still an enjoyable listen and wonderfully narrated

This book felt dated reminding me of some old Hammer horror films, dodgy portraits on the wall and all, but I didn't mind that. The narration was brilliant. However I only really enjoyed the first half of the book. Thereafter I found it a bit far fetched even for this story which ended up being a lot more Fantasy/Thriller than Horror. The Unlikely Hero does certain things which would be considered superhuman considering that he is just a normal man. It happened frequently enough for it to be distracting. For ex, it was extremely unlikely when the hero manages to evade the monster on not one but two occasion's during one scene without any real defence, and he showed great restraint in doing nothing when you would expect him to take immediate action. It just came across as very unrealistic. Even though the second half had a lot of issues, I'm still glad I read it.

most punchable protagonist imaginable. the narrative does seem to acknowledge briefly that he is awful, which is good, but he is nevertheless inexplicably rewarded for his efforts. there is a pansexual genderfluid demon in this book and somehow incomprehensibly they are not the focus. could have used more bog bodies and less utterly insufferable protagonist patting himself on the back for being so very smart. Performer sounds like the sort of person who performs stephen king novels and the accents are a bit shaky.
