About this listen

A DI RYAN WILKINS MYSTERY

A four-year-old girl goes missing in plain sight outside her nursery in Oxford, a middle-class, affluent area, her mother only a stones-throw away.

Ryan Wilkins, one of the youngest ever Detective Inspectors in the Thames Valley force, dishonourably discharged three months ago, watches his former partner DI Ray Wilkins deliver a press conference, confirming a lead.

Ray begins to delve deeper, unearthing an underground network of dark forces in the local area. But will he be able to get closer to the truth of the disappearance? And will Ryan be able to stay away?

This audiobook includes an exclusive preview of the next in the DI Ryan Wilkins Mysteries A Voice in the Night.

Superbly Woven Plot

Another genius story in this brilliant series. But first a big shout out for the narrator Matt Addis, who does a great job of bringing a collection of wonderfully drawn characters to life...not least of all our quirky and captivating hero DI Ryan Wilkins. I've already bought the rest of the series, so may not sleep for the next few days. But it'll be worth it. Highly recommended.

Excellent narrator

The narrator, Matt Addis makes this story come alive, it is like listening to a play. The story was good too but it is the narration that makes it an excellent listen. I can’t wait to listen to Matt Addis again.

Excellent narrator

Loved this book. Mason has written two hugely interesting characters and the plot's twists and turns and eventual denouement are compelling and very satisfying.
And a big cheer for narrator, Matt Addis, who is excellent.

Unorthodox but great

I struggled with DI Ryan Wilkins in the first book although I enjoyed the story. Excellent narration again and I thought it was better than the first book.

Loved this!

I read this straight after the first book and I’m just sorry that the next book in the series isn’t available until 2024. Matt Addis’ reading is superb and really brings the book to life. Recommend!

Solid sequel

Apart from a few loose ends, the plot of this book is tightly formed. Ryan Wilkins is a great character invention.

Some of the editing cuts necessary pauses short, but apart from that this is a good production of a nice whodunnit.

Brilliant plot and narration

Loved the characters and the interplay between Ray and Ryan. Satisfying twist, and moving depiction of parent-child relationships. Can't wait for book 3!

Tense story, with lots of twists.

Excellent story, tense, with lots of twists and made really characterful by the narrator. I have listened to books one and two in the series and I do not believe the true pathos, and guilt of Ray and Diane in this book, and the character of Ryan has in both would be better experienced on the printed page.
