About this listen
Widely respected as a civil libertarian, legal educator, and defense attorney extraordinaire, Alan M. Dershowitz has also been a passionate though not uncritical supporter of Israel. In this audiobook, he presents an ardent defense of Israel's rights, supported by indisputable evidence. Dershowitz takes a close look at what Israel's accusers and detractors are saying about this war-torn country. He accuses those who attack Israel of international bigotry and backs up his argument with hard facts.
©2003 Alan Dershowitz (P)2015 TantorI'd say it's worth picking up even if you are an avid detractor of Israel as it's invaluable to hear the counter argument made well, the only thing that lets this book down slightly is the narrator (probably just a personal preference on my part) but other than that it's outstanding & very worthy of your time.
A necessary if slightly dated book

I heard Norman Finkelstein try to criticise this book, but the best he could do was suggest that Dershowitz plagiarised another author in a small area - while I do not think he did, this is the kind of rubbish Finkelstein often does, rather than criticising the actual points being made.
I am not Jewish or Muslim, I have no vested interest in Israel, but Israel needs to exist, and the Jewish people have every right to their ancient homeland. We need to stop viewing this tiny stretch of land as the aggressor and this book presents a good case.
An important book

Personally I don't really need arguments. I have made all these points myself already from reading news and history. There is nothing new for me here. But the obvious points are presented clearly. The book has dated a bit. But for anyone not super familer with the topic this is more than good enough as an overview.
Hard to rate

He is very smart, I had to repeat a couple of sentences as so much information is packed in this excellent account.
Ok, I am not Jewish, or Muslim and have never been to Tel Aviv, but there is no need, given the enormous interest in this subject.
What I will add is that no Arab has compiled anything near the information Dershowitz has put forward.
Worth a listen.

The book came out in 2003 so it hasnt aged well at all what with the recent conflict, or even the previous 20 years of clonflict. He spent the first 80% of the book claiming each allegation against Israel comes from a place of antisemitism, then when one of the allegations is that criticism of Israel gets labeled as antisemitic, he says that's false and doesn't happen. The mental gymnastics this book goes through will take you on a wild ride, I'd recommend it just as an experiment for yourself, but yeah. I'm glad I didn't spend a credit on it.
interesting but flawed
