I still love listening to these Maisie Dobbs stories but have to try and ignore the narrators accents and pronunciation. grates sometimes.

Again, a good story with some insight into intelligence in the Second World War.
Terrible accents again from Julie Teal, and unfortunately the American and Scottish characters appear a lot. She makes Priscilla’s voice too shrill at times also. I’ve persevered for the story, but not sure I can listen to much more of this narration, it’s distracting

Another wonderful intertwined, spellbinding, unswitchoffable story from the imagination of Jacqueline Winspear, expertly and beautifully narrated by Julie Teal . As another reviewer mentioned Julie’s American accent for Mark being terrible I would like to refute that, I’ll give you its not the greatest but an American male accent for a female narrator must be difficult and i think she makes a decent job of it bringing Mark to life. And no her Pricilla character is not too shrill. Again I think Julie gives an impression of Pris as being a little OTT but with a huge warmth and a heart of gold. And I think her Scottish voice for Mcfarlane is genius, I can just see him in my mind’s eye, a shrewd, grumpy, intelligent man doing a difficult job.

JW has a way of weaving the story together bringing all the clues in so they silently wash over you and you are never really sure of what or who the protagonist is until last chapter or two. And while I never want the story to end I’m always eager to find out the who, and the why. And all of this yet again intertwined with Maisie’s personal life.

Thank you JW &JT for another 9 hours lost in a wonderful story.

Yet again a superb book by J W. I enjoyed the plot, the pace and the characters. I have got to know the players in the novels so well they feel like friends!!
Thank you Julie Teal for another marvellous narration, I can’t believe I am listening to one person as you act the parts so skilfully whatever age, gender or accent. Looking forward to the next one.

The threads of Maisie Dobb's life are encompassed again: her business of crime detection, her lover the American, her war work and her family life.

Irritatingly, instead of concentrating of the main relationships, the story is swamped with other issues which pad out the book and divert the focus. Being the last book in the series, so much needs to be concluded. IT CAN'T END HERE

POSTSCRIPT 4th May 2022, just found out there is a Book 17 and a Book 18 underway !!!

Another absorbing touching and gripping book in this series. When you complete it you are left anticipating the next part of the story yet grounded in the strength of all the participating characters knowing there is more to come. The other thing is the underlying commentary on the proof in which it is set and the skill in making you aware of the fears values and backcloth of that period in history .

These are mostly free atm and they’re so good.

Really good plots, great continuity of characters across the series, and a marvellous narrator whose range of accents including American and Scottish, is perfect.

I love them and I really recommend them.
