Summary
On the eve of his marriage to the beautiful Mercedes, having that very day been made captain of his ship, the young sailor Edmond Dantès is arrested on a charge of treason, trumped up by jealous rivals. Incarcerated for many lonely years in the isolated and terrifying Chateau d'If near Marseille, he meticulously plans his brilliant escape and extraordinary revenge.
Of all the "masked avengers" and "caped crusaders" in literature, The Count of Monte Cristo is at once the most daring and the most vulnerable. Alexandre Dumas (père), master storyteller, takes us on a journey of adventure, romance, intrigue, and ultimately, redemption.

Love it or hate it
I thought it was amazing, but it won't be for everyone. Old language, epic detail and slow pace could put many off - I wouldn't have been able to read this. But as an audible book I listened to every word with delight. Give it a try and if it's not for you get a refund.

Great listen
I have never read this title but always wanted to. Although the book is a very long one at over 51hrs, it was a very good listen. The Narrator Bill Homewood was great all the different voices. The story is complex and very interesting and definately worth a listen.

Wait and Hope!
Loved this sprawling extravaganza of a novel. Once you come to grips with the dramatis personae (of whom there are many), this becomes one of the timeless revenge stories, populated at every stage with believable characters. Narration is excellent. This has really whetted my appetite for Dumas.

Sublime
I sampled many versions before settling on this one. With such an epic, the narrator’s voice is critical and Bill Homewood fits perfectly. The story itself is perfectly paced and quite brilliant. Finishing this is a bit like loosing a friend

Immediately missed the characters after I complete
On completion of this book, I immediately felt a bit sad. The narrator did a great job in portraying all the different characters,so much so that you knew who was speaking before he mentioned it.

A marvelous, all-embracing literary journey
This is hands down one of the most precious works of art and an invaluable bequest to all of mankind in the field of Literature.
The author led me to believe that he has gotten too far and become distracted in these gigantic spin-offs and the hyperbolic way in which he built each character, but in time the pieces of the puzzle started to get in place one by one and I realised that this was just the way that the story was supposed to be written. Almost like some supreme mind has guided his hand throughout the process.
I enjoyed every minute. Most of you are probably wondering whether it is worth it to devote more than 50 hours of your time to a singular book. The answer is yes, definitely! And most of that is due to the unhumanly skill of the narrator! This guy has a brilliant voice and I would listen to every book that he has narrated. He has some flaws when it comes to the age of the characters though. Most of the 20 year old guys sounded like 50. But this is because of the enormous diversity of characters. Nobody can keep up to that standard and you cannot have a hundred different voices.
Last but not least, keep in mind that a good book like this one is not only a means of entertainment, but can also teach you a great deal about how this strange world of ours works!

A fabulous story brilliantly narrated
I've not bothered to write a review before on here, but after finishing this glorious audio-book I feel compelled to do so in thanks for the wonderful narration of Bill Homewood. The many characters all came alive in this production. Noirtier, who can't speak properly being severely disabled, is a particularly wonderful character. in this production. In the latter stages of this audio-book I had to keep standing up and walking around to cope with the story as it unfolded - the narrator was leaping out of my headphones with the ensuing drama with an amazing intensity. This is a long novel, tension builds and builds, eventually giving rise to huge dramatic scenes. After an incredible 52 hours and 41 minutes I was well and truly satisfied - many thanks.

Quite incredible story to the end
The reader fabulous and if I could I would reward him as 60+ hours must have been a great deal as the reader really works hard to act the different voices.
A long work that took me months of listening definitely worth it to the ending which gets better and better.
Brilliantly recommended
